Just thought I'd chime in here: I am personally using a Coolmax Taurus CX 350-watt model here (with the 12cm fan), in my AMD Athlon XP-2700 system, and it is VERY quiet. A couple of people here have also said this PSU seems quieter than the 12cm Fortron models. From what I've heard here, I suspect t...

CRAP! Okay, I found a 1700mAmp converter with selectable voltage, and I was about to cut the tip off and wire up my fans, but I have NO idea how to tell which is positive and which is negative. Any way to tell short of getting a volt meter? If I hook it up backwards, will there be hell to pay? A vo...

Guys, before this turns into a big argument, I just thought maybe I'd put in my 2 cents... Personally, I'll agree, I think it sounds like the proSilence PSUs have problems. However, I also don't think ONE single bad brand is enough to extrapolate and make the general statement that ALL brands of fan...

If it takes fewer volt amps from the wall, it uses less power, so has higher efficiency. No, you're wrong. Like I said before, Active PFC might make it take fewer volt amps from the wall, but it most certainly does not make the PSU more efficient. Fewer volt-amps does NOT equal fewer watts. The quo...

I have one of these PSUs on the testbench, open right now. Will go in the test rig today or tomorrow. Should have a review done in a few days. Yay!!!!! So I see you finally got a sample!!!! Oh happy day!!!! :D:D:D I'll be VERY interested to see your results, because I think it looks like an interes...

I also noticed that 60% efficiency figure. I wonder if that's correct--60% seems a bit hard to believe for a fanless PSU, let alone ANY PSU. If that figure is correct, that means it isn't even as efficient as the 120mm-fanned CX units. I find it extremely difficult to believe a fanless unit could li...

Well, I am hoping that if we compete against each other for folding power, maybe it will also help our team. After all, EOC seems to be increasing their lead over us day-by-day now (they are now outproducing us by over 1,500 PPD), and we seem to be rather stagnant--according to EOC's team stats page...

I dunno about you people, but I have no problem with hot air being exhausted by my 120mm-fanned PSU. My Coolmax Taurus CX-350 PSU is so quiet, I can't hear it at all unless I am less than 1 foot away from it. (And let's face it, NO FAN is ever going to be 100% silent unless it moves hardly any air a...

Of course, there are a couple of teams bucking the trend, Mac OSX of course, but also EOC. And I think I see a connection here: both were teams we once passed!! And in both of these cases, the teams seemed to begin rallying and ramping up their production, angry that we'd passed them. I suspect EOC...

I run the ntpd daemon, but sometimes I also find it useful to update on-the-spot from the command line. This is what I normally do on my Fedora Core system when I want to update the time on-the-spot from the command line: As root, run this command: ntpdate -u time.nist.gov The -u option is necessary...

How about not upgrading for about a year and let AMD and Intel figure out their socket troubles? My AMD 3600+ is plenty fast for whatever I do 8) 1) No socket is forever. I figure if you wait, you'll be waiting forever. After all, if you just wait long enough, ANY socket, be it 370, 462, 478, 775, ...
