System Rebuild-Need Advice
Ok, after ghetto-rigging this and semi-fixing that, I've decided to go for a full rebuild for silence's sake. I'm going to buy either a BQE or a Sonata (most likely the BQE) and I want all the fans automatically controlled thermally. (I'm sick of having to deal with my fan controller all the time--t...

I spent a while working in a computer repair shop working on 15-year-old dot matrix printers. Those beasts had caps the size of 12oz coke cans inside them. IF you want to make sure you don't shock yourself, the way we always did it was to take a very well-insulated screwdriver (plastic handled ones,...

More stupid questions from Chad
Ok guys, I'm a busy man, so I basically abandoned the ducting idea for now. If I get more time I'll try it later. I hopped on eBay and bought a 3-pack of Panaflo L1A's, as well as a Zalman CPU cooler. I can't remember the model name, but it's the one that looks like a peacock with a detached fan. So...

Jan: That's why I want to pull cold air close to the cpu, then pipe the heat from the cpu directly out the back. I'm not sure percentage-wise how much of the heat in the case is due to the CPU, but I would imagine it's a significant amount, and if I can essentially isolate that heat from the case I ...

CRAP.
CRAP. I just spent like 20 minutes typing up a big long message about fluid dynamics and then I lost it all. Here's the cliff's notes: Flowing fluid is quieter when it moves slower. To do this, you could construct an exhaust tube shaped somewhat like a trumpet, which I intend to try. I also like the...

Thanks for the articles...it's good to know I'm not the only moron that had this idea! After a little exploring, here's what I'm thinking.... --I'll probably construct most of the ducts out of plexiglas. That way I can play with the shape of them and get them to fit nicely into the case and not be p...

Un-holy fan/duct combo idea...
Hey guys, I've been lurking around this site now and I've been bitten by the silent PC bug. A few days ago I played around with some fans and such, but I want to make the thing REALLY quiet. Here's my set-up now: I have a Cooler Master Musketeer single fan controller/temp gauge that controls the pro...
