Ninja Mini & Fans, Saphire 6850
Not sure if this is a relic of a by-gone era, or something to cherish (I did), but I have a Ninja Mini for sale, in great condition. I'll leave it here for a week or so and then toss it to eBay's whims. It's in great shape, and I used it on my Z87 Motherboard until yesterday (socket 1155). The brack...

Re: Quiet / Noisy Monitor Survey
I can confirm the buzzing with the u2713hm. Otherwise it's a BRILLIANT monitor - no PWM backlight, tons of inputs, beautiful display, light AG coating, regular gamut.
<sigh>
I'm on my 3rd, and they all buzz.

[Sold]: Passive Nvidia GeForce 9600GSO + Accelero S1
$20 on eBay, someone got a good deal. :-) It *IS* the S1 v2 (there are 2 sets of mounting holes). Perfect condition, never overclocked, lived in a Hackintosh doing boring Lightroom photo editing. Nice card, and quiet, too. :-) The card: Asus 9600GSO 512MB (non-gimped version) http://www.newegg.com/P...

(was) LF: Pentium D (yeah, I know...)
Edit: Picked up a cheap Pentium D 945 on eBay. 95w TDP -- those were the days!! :-) I just inherited a really nice old HP XW4300 workstation that I'm refurbishing - it's a REALLY nice box, tool-less chassis, heatpipe cooler. It's got a 2.8 P4, and can take any (?) P4/Pentium D. Anyone have a Pentium...

Re: Lian-Li V354 is on it's way, does anyone have any questi
Cute little case. I was just wondering, "If I had to get a desktop case, what would I get?" One thought I had was, do I get a small case like this, or get a mid-tower like my P150 (or a Mini P180) that can handle more airflow. So I guess my question would be, What are you putting in it, what's it co...

Dunno - that Raidsonic box looks pretty neat. I have Icy Docks and am pretty happy with them - very reliable. I had a bunch of IDE docks back in the day, and they were very prone to connection problems (power, or one of the 50+ pins wouldn't connect). SATA makes it really nice. Here's some ICY Dock ...

No, you didn't miss anything. Well, except one thing - try to return the HDD back to your computer and boot from it. Then you will notice the difference - you don't feel it that much when you switch from HDD to SSD, but when you are forced to return to HDD. That's true - you get used to Speed prett...

I think there's hope - the iPad uses IPS, and the new iPhone is supposedly going to use IPS. Also, the latest KNO tablet is said to use a dual-screen 14.1" (!!) IPS panel. From my understanding, and idle i3 will be pretty cool, and an idle ATI card is normally pretty cool*, so at idle, you'll be OK. I'd recommend a 80-90mm fan on the Minja, and a single 120mm fan on the side of the case. Also, a bigger concern is if you're open or in an enclosed environment - I put my...

There is no such thing as a variable rpm hard drive. I swear that they were at least announced - I recall that some Hitachi's would spin down to a certain speed on idle. Didn't take off, obviously, as VS motors probably made it really tough to balance & added cost/complexity. Only thing I saw was a...

I've had 2 flavors of Green drive in my HTPC - a 1 TB 4 (5?) platter original version, and now a 4 (3?) platter 2 TB version. Both are super quiet, and cool (THAT'S a must). Figure folks from here are picky enough to possibly know - Any 13-14" laptops out there with a decent wide viewing angle screen? Not necessarily IPS, but more than, well... junk.. garbage.. 5 degree viewing angle stuff they're putting in consumer gear these days. Anyone know what an Envy 13 has? -Dan

.. popped it in tonight - it DOES use less (or equal) power to the e6600, at their mild-overclocks & stock voltages. Crazy. Easy overclock to 3.5 GHz @ 1.21 volts (stock), cooled with a Mini Ninja & 5v 80mm fan. Not much difference from idle (150 watts) -> prime95 torture (185 watts) Now I just need...

Curious opinions!
Dual Core options: Interesting thoughts about the e6600 vs. e7xxx. My e6600 overclocks to 3.33 most of the time, but I've got it at 3.1 for stability. Under Windows it might do better, but Hackintosh is a bit more dodgy, less tweakable. I was supposing that a e7500 could go do 4.4 (400 fsb * 11 mult...

Mine mine delivered over the weekend - overall, not too bad for the price. - Doesn't use more power than the 3850 that it replaced, though the 3850 is arguably faster. - The cooler is like a hair-dryer - pretty noisy despite what the Newegg reviews state.
