There is no such thing as true silence. If you listen carefully, you'll hear your hard drive or some coil buzz. Spinpoint Nidec FDB...I can't hear it as is if my ear is more than a few inches away, save seeks (which I have no problem with), and not doing RAID for backup or anything, I could easily ...

True silence without VIA?
Awhile back, there were a couple attempts on the 'net for silencing PCs that had decent performance. The most interesting was one with a s754 system. It seems that with the s939 Winchesters doing a bit better on power, CnQ, bigger and badder heatsinks, the Antec Phantom (3yr warrantied passive? That...

Are you supposed to slide the fan in between the two heat sinks? How do you attach it? :?:  Tne fan is attached via bracket to one of the sets of fins. no shroud. If the HS doesn't perform well in true silence, a nonshrouded fan on one side will not do too much good, as has been proven true i...

Any ideas about when/where reviews will be popping up? If a low-speed A64 could be cooled by this w/o a fan right next to it, it really would be a good option. I don't think I've seen any HS quite that massive before (though Coolermaster's is close, and probably heavier). ...they also don't show how...

Note that with good airflow, you won't need the additional fan (I use a 5900XT @440/900, passive w/ ZM80C), and also, you can stick a fan anywhere around the card, not just where it is supposed to go. Oh yeah, and how about some pics? If I can get the money, going to a 6600GT (AGP) will be my next u...

I wouldn't play HL2, but I might check my mail, browse the web, like right now, etc., which get to being very, very slow during such tasks. I might actually schedule them and deal with that if I could actually use the machine for much during that time. Command queuing will do very little to speed up...

There are several things missing from that review--not the least of which being that most of us don't care about additional performance in a single user environment, because single user envronment has come to be defined as single TASK. Run Spybot, AdAware, a nice virus scan, etc., and see how well, ...

I don't know about doors (mine is a drawer), but for mobo mounting, I used the tray from a Enlight 7101. Not counting that, you could check out the 'skeletons' at directron.com.

There are heatpipes going in the proper direction for a tower case. I wouldn't be suprised if the fine width (from one side's heatpipes to another's) is not too large for the heat to be conducted through (after a point, more fin becomes useless, but I don't knw how to figure that distance out based ...

I had a PC in my room for several years. No biggie. Then I got a Duron 800, overclocked it to 1Ghz, with a noisy Enlight PSU. Then I got a Geforce2 GTS, with an itty bitty 40mm fan. Then I got a 5400RPM WD HD Caviar. Whine, whine, whine. I began in AT, and actually adding fans helped, but then that ...

Hmmm, could it be posible to fit a 120mm fan on the SI97, with an adaptor? The only issue would be the weight of the 120mm fan and adaptor....  I think that would work well if the 12cm fan was a case fan attached with a duct. Which would be a lot easier if this thing was vertical like ...

Does anyone have the circuit for a Zalman Fanmate? If I were making a PC for someone, I'd use this is a heartbeat. However, I'd also get a shim, just to be sure. However, if TR can be trusted to use ~600g (+fan) heatsinks that don't cover the pads, I think they can be trusted with ~280g (+fan). In any case, it all looks good to me. Not only was Sock...

<- overclocked 5900XT with a ZM80C 8) If you don't have ideal air flow, I'd not go with a power hog like the 5900. I had a fan for awhile, and now hve cables well tucked away just for the card. A 9600XT is a sure bet. A 9800 Pro that is actually an XT (most are now) would do well, too, but you'd wan...

Re: Quiet cooler for 5900xt
Leadtek 5900XT here, and I'm very happy w/ the Zalman ZM80C. The ZM80D offers a better value. If you have good case air flow, it aught to work well. If not, a very quite fan nearby can do wonders. The Zalman is a PITA to install (and don't use their screwdriver--use a good #2!), but with patience, w...

The load temps look about right to me, having used a C version of the cooler, and the same video card. If you twist the two plates and heatpipe a bit so that it is more inclined to not be perfectly parallel (more a V shape than a U shape), it will help temps. I re-intsalled mine this way, as it seem...

1. Intakes are under the HDD suspension frame. Two holes for 120mm fans. If you look on the first pic, you can see the holes the filter rests above. There will be no exhaust fan, but about 2x12" spcae above the motherboard tray for air to move out the back. 2. isolating/dampening the intake fans, PS...
