Antec 3700BQE still effective?
I need a new system, and I'm trying to reuse parts from an old Pentium 4 system. Specifically, the case, an Antec 3700BQE. I am not using the stock PSU or fan. Is the case itself still decent? Are there newer more effective designs? I will be running: i7 2700K CPU MB with onboard video Seasonic X-46...

I don't see the use of the XMystique has a Dobly Digital encoder...You would have to have something like a 5.1 receiver (or something that can decode DD signals) to even be able to use it. Plus, why would you need to ability to encode DD? I can only think of either creating your own music or some so...

The onboard digital output it most likely quite poor. I think that even Creative's sound cards are likely better in comparison. Your best bet would be to use something from Terratec or M-Audio. Sadly, I don't know if there is any card that excels for both gaming and music...You could get seperate ca...

The choices largely depends on your budget... Optimally, you shouldn't use the DAC on the sound card. No matter how expensive the sound card is, it will not be able to do a good job of D/A while inside the computer due to the high degree of EMI (electromagnetic interference). To avoid this, output t...

I like having the s/pdif on the motherboard because I'm not sure whether the s/pdif on the sound card outputs surround sound formats or just stereo. I like the idea of a cool 64bit chip, unfortunately none of my software is 64bit. every onboard audio I've listened to picks up a lot of noise from on...

Ya, that's one of my concerns too...I'm hoping that I can take advantage of the fact that the TV uses a fan to exhaust the air and I utilize its momentum. Once it enters the duct, which I will place an openning right beside the exhaust, I hope the suction from the new fans will be enough to draw the...

I googled "duct fan" and found that 6" and above duct fans are usually rated btw 250 - 800 CFMs. I wasn't able to find any specifics as to their noise, but they are all listed as being quiet...most user opinions seem to confirm that (though some mentioned hearing some noise). Not really sure what ot...

I was at home depot and was looking at their air ducts when I saw these fans that were part of the duct themselves (they are mounted completely within the duct with no other frame). They are designed to improve circulation. One of the guys there said that he has one and that it's not very loud, but ...

I've decided to create ducts to exhaust air up and out of my frame, and make my own registers to cover the opennings. My thanks goes out to lenny and Putz who gave me these idea as well as everyone else who made suggestions. The thing I am unsure of is where best to put the fan. I'm thinking that I ...

Alright, so I get the impression that most people agree that I need to use some fans in some manner... No matter how I position the fans, i will need some grills... I know that I would get the best airflow if I used grills like these, http://www.directron.com/net12.html . But that would require that...

The TV will be placed about 8 inches into the new frame. The difficulty of putting a fan near the floor is that the TV sits on a stand (about 1.5 feet tall), so the fan would just be pushing air straight through the stand and not actually cooling the TV. Here are a couple things based on the ideas y...

This is the actual TV (sort of, I have last year's model, but they are very similar). I can't find any specifications as to the maximun allowed ambient temperature though. I'm considering either making vents at the top of the frame, or putting two fans at the top. The latter is easier, but which is ...

I have another idea to duct the fans to pull the air coming out of the exhausts to flow under the TV and through the opennings in the stand. Now, I cannot actually have the duct run clear of the stand as they would become visible and unsightly. Instead, I can take advantage of the fact the the stand...

Connecting the fans in series? Hum...perhaps...I don't know enough about transformers to have a proper understanding of which is better. The only thing with connecting the fans in series is that if one dies, then the other could also stop. Although, I guess if when the fan dies, it still lets curren...

The TV is 4 feet wide (and 4 ft tall including the stand). The openning I've made is about 5' wide and there is about 2" clearance behind and 2" on top. There are already two fans in there tha pump air out. They also operate for a couple minutes after you turn the TV off. I am also not going to mount the new ones inside, but rather strap them perpendicularly on the sides (the sides are actually diagonal, so you mount be able to see them. I'm not sup...

Also, about the placement of the fans... The TV has it's own fans pumping air out of the sides (it's a 42" LCD projection TV). I am thinking of mounting the fans under the openning on the sides (located near the base of the TV) and pumping air up. The TV will be pretty tightly sealed, and there is m...

Cooling a TV
I'm installing a TV into a wall and am concerned with it overheating in the tight space, so I have bought two 92mm Panaflo L1As to aid in the cooling. I need something to power them though. I'm thinking of using an extra universal AD/DC tranformer to power each of the two fans at maybe 6V or 7.5V (t...

I think it is sometimes the same thing with extreme overclockers. Will they really notice the difference of a few extra MHz? Probably not, but they still try to push their system as far as it will go. Overclock with old systems was not noticible like 30-60 Mhz but with new ones you can overclock as...

The G4 is a great CPU. The only fan in my graphite G4 is for the PSU (but it is only 400 MHz, and I think the new ones have more fans). However, the G4 cube was something of a failure...It was discontinued due to overheating as I recall. They couldn't cram all the stuff in such a small space. I woul...

I have the P4P800 SE, you can control the fan speed. I've done it with speed fan, however, only the CPU fan connector can be controlled. If you want to use software to control multiple fans, then you will need to wire a second fan to the single connection. Here is one way to do it: http://forums.sil...
