Re: Seagate Archive 8TB HD quiet?
Barracuda & Ironwolf, iirc, but they all should have the same acoustics. All spin at 7200, same # of platters... Cool beans, thanks for the info. Any clue if the Pro versions of the drives have similar acoustics? The non-Pro is rated at 2.7 to 3.2 bels for the larger sizes, but the Pro doesn't list...

Re: Seagate Archive 8TB HD quiet?
Looking at there these days: which 8TB model number did you try? There are some. Bump. I'm in the market for some large capacity drives for my home storage system. I just bought a WD RED Pro for work and the seeks are really loud. I'm looking to get 4 drives in the 6 to 8 TB range and it would be n...

Fractal Define R5: windowed noise levels?
I recently had to rip apart my two Antec P150 builds to migrate a power supply so I'm thinking it's time to upgrade to something a little more modern. The R5 seems to be the winner for me. I need two, one for an always on Linux server, and the other for an occasionally on gaming box. I was thinking ...

A friend told me the magnets are the best stud finder he's ever used. They glom right onto a nail in the stud. I'll second this one. Be sure to wrap it in a thin cloth or put it in a zip lock bag as they will mark the wall as you drag it around. In addition I bought these round magnets http://www.a...

You will not find higher quality, lower noise or more reliable inline fans{period} [snip] Many reputable greenhouse suppliers carry them. Okay, you convinced me, I will check out the local greenhouses. Never would have thought to check there, so thanks for the pointer, and for being adamant about i...

CFM = K*P/C K = 1.740 P = watts C = Centigrade air temp rise CFM = 1.74*580/(10) = 101 for 10C rise, or 182 for 10F rise. Thanks for the calculation! Looks like the 80 CFM is way too low. 150 CFM would probably be just fine. I don't think I would have both boxes maxed at the same time, and I can al...

Damping material to line part of a closet with?
I am going to put two computers into a closet to further quiet them (cooling questions posted in Fans and Control ). I would like to line the left and back left sides with a sound deadener to help keep noise from bouncing around. I figure I will need about 30 square feet of material. Can anyone reco...

A/C fan to cool a computer closet, use a bathroom fan?
I am moving my two computers to a closet so I can close the doors to quiet them even more. The closet in about 2 feet deep, 6 feet wide, and 10 feet high. It has two folding doors across the 6' face. I will be putting two computers in it, one Linux server, running 24x7, one Windows gaming box run oc...

Final status
I actually tried the power supply from a different P150 and had the same issue with that one, so I purchased a Corsair HX520. When I plugged it in outside the case and listened carefully I could still hear some buzzing, but not nearly as bad as the original PS. Since I put it back in the case I have...

Not at all, the rig he describes should only have the PSU loaded to 65-70% or so, tops. I plugged it into a Kill-A-Watt meter and the very highest I could make it go was 330 watts at the wall. That's with ORTHOS running on both cores and 3DMark07 running at 1600x1200 with full AA. The Feature Test:...

BIONIC_EARS: good to know it isn't just me. Guess I'll have to swap it out for something else. :( And just for the record, shifting the power connectors did nothing... JoeWPgh: I noticed the screws were loose when I put the system together. I will double check, but I am pretty sure I tightened them....

Re: New P150 build buzzy plus other issues
Ask Antec to send you the new rings; they will. Anyone in particular I should contact, or just the generic 800 support number? Also, is there any way to get another of the PCIe power cables so I don't have to use the molex adapter? Different connectors might make a difference. Worth trying. BTW, ar...

New P150 build buzzy plus other issues
<delurk> I've been a long time reader of SPCR and have now built 3 systems based on what I've read here. So first, a very big thank you to all for amazing advice and discussion. My latest build is a P150 with an 8800GTX, an Abit IP35 Pro, and an E6700, all bought new off NewEgg. A high powered gamin...
