Re: Need advice on small file server

1) I would like a small footprint machine to act as a full time file server and part time web surfing/email checking computer. How small do you want it? The mini-itx boards are great for small, but the requirement for 3+ HDD would be hard to fulfill if you wanted to stick with a "mini-itx only" cha...

One difference between PC's and VGA's is that your monitor is on top of your desk, and your PC tends to be below it. Also monitors tend to be elevated on little stands. They are cooled convectively, but they're not a risk when it comes to overheating, when compared to one's CPU for instance. But no...

I don't think the ATX standard or the way tower cases go about it is all wrong: The inlets are generally at the bottom of the front of the case (where allegedly cool air is) and the exhausts are at the top in the back, where allegedly convection has helped the process along. But really, once you hav...

It's worth noting that the fanless Cube's had a high RMA rate from overheating. So much so that Apple has dropped the idea of convection cooling altogether. (The new G5 has 9(!) fans) Indeed in the "iLamp" iMacs, there's a big fan at the top of the base unit, so they've learned their lesson in "con...

Not too big. "A few mm" ;) The holes are designed to fit small plastic pins that Lian-Li uses to mount their stock fans. I agree it's a better idea to find isolators that fit the fans and use a drill to widen the mounting holes on the case.

The other issue is that PWM creates its own problems with pulsing & other nasty noises in fans when slower speeds are desired -- at least this is my limited experience. I am told the fan and PWM circuit have to be designed for each other to avoid this problem. Worse, in my experience, there's a lot...

Re: Fan isolator size for Lian-Li 60

Hi, I've seen different sizes for those EAR fan isolators and I was wondering if anyone knows which ones fit a Lian-Li 60 case? Hi, I have the same case and use the isolators that I bought from siliconacoustics. Well, sorta, as I needed to dremel the holes a little bigger to accomodate those isolat...

arstechnica's a/v forum will probably get you a lot of leads. They seem to like the klipsch speakers (since they keep recommending them).

Could the whine be coming from the sound card itself, or has the sound card not changed at all?

Re: Worth modding my Lian Li case to fit a 92mm exhaust fan?

Hi, One idea I'm considering at the moment, is to modd the back of my Lian Li PC60 case so that I could fit a 92mm exhaust fan. I would assume that at the very least it would increase airflow with no additional noise, especially useful as I next plan to replace the fan on my R9700 Pro with a Zalman...

I recently picked up a fanstorm controller and have spent the past two days messing around with it. A few observations: 1. If you value tidy cabling, this will drive you nuts.
