I'm surprised anyone actually pronounces it with one syllable. That's like pronouncing Nike like Mike. I know it's OT, but since someone has mentioned it, I find it annoying how people pronounce "Nike" as nigh-key . Where does this come from? Just as in the name "Mike", in English the function of t...

Not everyone wants to wave their willy in the playground and constantly show of their "shiny" toys to the world (which often get stolen), some of us want some real substance and not all of the fakeness that comes with many (but not all) Apple products. There seems to be plenty of "willy waving" in ...

It's easy to understand how only the product key can disappear from the sticker. The sticker itself is obviously manufactured by a more robust process with the graphics etc sealed in. The product key is then later printed on it, but not properly sealed. It is reasonable to consider MS at fault here....

But i think the fan will spin faster if it's mounted to the back of the case. It cannot move the heat out of the heatsink directly. So alot warmth stays in the heatsink and that causes overal higer cpu temps that make the fan run faster then 400rpm i think. A heatsink like the Ninja, with its wide ...

I would get the Ninja with a bolt-through kit, and put the fan on the case like in the photo. You should get decent temperatures from this setup. Should you later need to increase cooling efficiency, you can fold a piece of cardboard to cover the gap (example here).

I've got a Ninja Mini on my E5300, with only an undervolted rear exhaust fan providing airflow. Just for fun I tried switching the fan off and running the CPU at full load. Temperatures maxed out at around 80C, which is pretty amazing considering. I mounted the Ninja Mini using a Xigmatek Crossbow b...

Windows 7 forgets window size and location
I like to make full use of hierarchical folders and I like to open folders into their own windows. As such it's important to me to arrange windows so that when they are reopened, they appear the same as they did when I last closed them. For some mysterious reason, MS doesn't seem to think this is a ...

Satanism is a religion too. I think the point being made here is that all belief systems (whether political, religious, whatever) are a type of brain washing that causes followers to blindly follow dogma, sometimes to extremes. Think for yourself, understand your environment, be considerate of others.

Yes, that is the correct diode, although it's much more expensive than what I pay for them . Anyway, for the usage being discussed here, the diodes do not oppose the current. The diode will only oppose current when its polarity is reversed (reverse biased). We are using the diodes with a forward bia...

To find out the voltage being applied to the fan, you first need to know what the supply voltage is (I assume you'll be using a 12V lead from the PSU). Then use your voltmeter to measure the voltage drop across the diodes, ie put one lead on one side of the diodes and the other lead on the other sid...

I would recommend using rectifier diodes rather than a Zener. Zener diodes are more expensive, and you need to know in advance the actual voltage required. Rectifier diodes, being so cheap, you can buy a handful of them and keep stringing them together (in series, with the silver bands pointing in t...

The Intel SSD you linked to has "G2" in the part number so I'm pretty sure it's second generation. I've got W7-64 installed on a 30GB SSD, and with hibernate disabled it takes up less than 10GB. Not sure why you changed your motherboard choice. The one with USB3.0 is only $5 extra and you won't need...

Before buying anything (unless you like spending money), it's worth trying suspension. The results are quite amazing. Not only will you get rid of the beating effect, but the system should be a lot quieter over all. In particular, HDD seeks become very muted. It's easy to make the suspension secure ...
