Howdy DougS, According to DirkVader.de ( review link in german ), the Aero fan at it's lowest setting is about the same as a 12V Papst N2GL at 27dBA (vs. ~25 for the NG2L). The numbers with their test methodology. The numbers seem decent, but the fan may still require further undervolting. And who k...

PIII and PIV are safe up to near 70°C. This is where they start to thermally throttle. I'm half talking out my ass about AMD CPUs 'cause I haven't used on since 1.4Tbird days but I seem to remember hearing that AMD says up to 90°C is OK. Anyone care to help me out here? Most of the newer or faster ...

Devinci makes good bicycles, but I'd highly recommend Marinoni - another manufacturer from Quebec. http://www.marinoni.qc.ca/wussboy wrote:Nice work powergyoza! I love cycling. For years I've ridden a $100 piece of crap I bought at a pawn shop. I can't wait to get a sweet road bike!

hey beanboy, If conventional silencing-wisdom is right, WB's on the sides should offer enough cooling. Usually, the heat is given off the most at the sides. If you're interested and crazy as me, you can give acoustic lead foil a shot. SPCR's (@ Storageforums') Blakewry also successfully employed lea...

I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties. I guess the performance of the rubber box depends a lot on 1) the type of rubber, 2) how well the openings are closed off [back included], and 3) possibly how tight fittiing the rubber box is (probably not, but it certainly helps with conducting the heat aw...

The Baracuda 7200.7 datasheet says 2.8A max. SCSI drives would be more than that, so that gives one per connector That 2.8A figure must be @ spin up because under seeking it's < 13 watts, which works out to about 1A+ on the 12V line. Seems like it consumes 0A on the 5V line or whatever "N/A" means....

Hey serge, The CNPS-7000 is said to have a good fan, so I wouldn't worry about picking that one. My biggest concern is the poorly designed airflow for this case. No heatsink fanned or fanless will do well in that case. There's nothing on the mobo half to exhaust the heat. Solutions include: hacking ...

What is the power / current rating of the wiring / molex. 4 or more SCSI drives will need thickish wires. There should still be some headroom with 4 drives. IIRC, each contact can take 5A, but the wire itself is around 7A. I bet most SCSI drives are around 1A for each of the 5V & 12V lines. That's ...

I have been thinking about the intake fans being at the rear of the pc, but the problem is that I have one of them flower heat sink fans, so if I added intake fans to the rear, they would be blowing air at the heatsink fan which would cause it to make more noice! A fan blowing at another fan is not...

Zhentar, I don't want to get into a debate about nuclear power, but I do know that many scientists and activists - David Suzuki being one - argue that there is not enough resources on this earth to power our future needs. Re: Optimizing case airflow
1. modding the PSU with 2 silent 80mm fans + 1 silent 92mm side intake fan? or 2. modding the PSU with 1 silent 80mm fan + 1 silent 92mm side intake fan + 1 silent 92mm top-of-case exhaust fan? Hello Jen, Neither is ideal, but if those were your only choices, I'd go for #1. If you can, remove 1 fan...

Neil, -advmethods will force the use of the gromacs core. herosformula, How you include those switches depends on which client you're using and how you start the client. From what I can tell about your case setup, you may have a case airflow issue. If your rear case fans are intakes and your PSU fan is the only exhaust then you'll have a big dead-zone of air towards the front and bottom - I'm assume that's where your hdd is. If this seems like a reasonable assessmen...
