That's great advice folks.
It's just thatt buying part that gets me. I'll get over it. This duallie tower is probably less of a burden recycled than it is kept in operation...

Options for an old duallie
Hey guys, it's been a long time since posting. I have a situation with my old duallie Athlon. It's still fast & stable but it's no fun using this machine in a green fashion - ie. powered off whenever not in use. Why? This duallie doesn't like to boot. I don't want it anymore. This machine is more su...

I'm gonna be a devil's advocate here and suggest that we may be disappointed if/when SPCR reviews it. Why? I'm almost certain that 85% is achieved on 220VAC. SPCR tests on 120VAC and that PSU would certainly loose 2% just because of the voltage in North America. That mean's it likely achieves 83% ef...

Farewell from an Old Timer (RIP Antec PSU)
Hey all, I disappeared without really saying goodbye but I didn't really know life would take me so far away from something so dear to me. Now that some computer trauma has momentarily brought me back, I thought I'd take the chance to say farewell. It was really fun discussing, testing and writing a...

From the looks of it either the bottom half or at least a big part of the mid section does not really get any airflow. Just the middle section where the motor assembly is. The bottom half gets airflow. The fact that they use a specialized fan and integrated controls on circuit board will make it im...

Yes, 80mm is supposed to include the height of a 38mm fan.miker wrote:Is that maybe the height including a 25 or 38mm high fan?

Gigabyte "Flower" Heatpipe w/blower HSF
Okay, it's not exactly a flower like the CNPS 7000.
Saw a review at http://www.hardwarezone.com, but I wanted to look for a review that actually measured the noise. No such thing.
Model# Gigabyte GH-PCU21-VG aka 3D Cooler-Pro
Does anyone thinks it's worthy of a SPCR review?

Try this experiment....Take two fans, blowing them in different directions. Then move the rear of these fans closer and closer together. What happens? Well the output of each fan diminishes, and the noise level goes up. This is what is happening to the airflow from the fans in the picture, of cours...

So all the heated air goes thru the PSU, thereby heating it further? I think the central issue of this debate is whether the heated air from the CPU, VGA, HDD, VRM, NB, etc. is still useful to us. [/i] Past a certain temperature, ie. beyond a certain power draw, I'd say NO. Where do I define that th...

Most doors have enough air leakage around them, or like the 3700 and Antec SX10x0 series actually have openings around their periphery, so you get halfway decent airflow without a direct (i.e. "noisy") path to a PSU duct. Seems to me like a slightly ventilated door would be quite preferable on a ca...

The big question is whether the extra case ventilation, extra CFM/noise, and indirect noise path is worth the reduced heatsink, extra heat in PSU, reduced PSU lifespan, and alternating noise. and how is case airflow affected? > vibrations of 120mm could be another issue. Also for me, since db is an...

I made something from rubber, not metal/foam. It works very well for its cost (~US$10). http://www.silentpcreview.com/goto.php?t=s&id=67&a=1
I just recently tested it against a Smart Drive (not 2002 model) and it's about 75%-85% as effective (my best guess).
