Thanks for the input! I have a Antec True380 with the fan only connector. If you were me, would you connect CPU fan and/or case fan to Antec's fan only or go with SpeedFan by plug into mobo? Which will do a better job? PS. I haven't try the fan only on the Antec but I will try both method later to ...

Here's the easiest to make 12V to 7V or 5V molex: http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_index.html?/main/5-7-adapter.html . I use these in several of my systems to test 5V vs. 7V and end up leaving them in most of the time. Here's another way to change a 4 pin to 3 pin molex cable to use the 3pin fan ...

Why don't you just run it on 7V or 5V? Easy to make a molex for that: http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_ind ... apter.html. The quieter fans usually just run at a slower speed anyway.

[quote="Gxcad"]I must jump in. Bigger fans are LOUDER at the same RPM. For example, the famous black label 60mm delta (38cfm) was about 6800rpm and 48.5db. The 80mm 68cfm I believe is 4700rpm and around 48.5db as well (approximate off the top of my head guesses). As you can see, the rated noise is t...

Re: voltage configuration of 3pin
Yes, read http://www.overclockers.com/tips766/SungHyun7 wrote:To run my panaflo at 5v, do I have to use the 4pin power adapter?
is there any way I can get 5v just from arranging the wires on 3pin tail?

Also, what relevance does the 80mm spec have? <br> Panflo has 3 models, the L series is the lowest powered and most quiet of the series. First, start with cleaning your case up. Read http://w3.one.net/~robotech/cool__quiet_pc.htm carefully and apply all the case mods to your case. You are losing 70% of your cooling capacity to just the grills in your case. Also clean up the air paths through your case. Either get round cables or make...

You can make a 12V to 7V or 5V molex cable in less than five minutes. See http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_ind ... apter.html
I use them to test fans and (being lazy) have ended up leaving them in the systems when I find the speed I want.

The Thermalright AX-7 actually outperforms the SLK-800 when you are using a low-speed fan. The new SK-7 should also do very well with low-speed fans. I have one that I will be using in a new system this next week. For a real review of the performance with different fans, see http://w3.one.net/~robot...

Re: Mobos with built-in thermal fan control??
Asus A7V333 ("Q-Fan") is one of the candidates. From what I see on http://usa.asus.com/mb/qfan.htm , it has some possible drawbacks (I assume they wanted to make this feature fullproof enough for inexperienced users): 1. Minimum fan speed ratio (lower/upper limit) is fixed at 10:15, that is only a ...

Much simpler and straight forward approach is here:http://www.dslwebserver.com/main/fr_ind ... apter.html. Shows you how to make a 12V to 7V or 5V molex out of one of your spare molex Y plugs. I use them all the time. Takes me about two minutes now to make one.

Thermaltake specs are not accurate. I have found them to be much louder than their claims and ended up taking all of them back. They clicked, they whined, they just weren't right. Tried several in different sizes. The Vantec Stealth seems to be right in line with its claimed specs. Nice low hum, no ...

I have the ASUS A7V333 running using Q-Fan. Works great. At first boot the fan (YS Tech 80mm) is running full out at 4800 rpm. As the OS comes up the fan starts decreasing and achieves steady-state at 3000 rpm which is a nice quiet speed. Really works great. I am also using WRCREDIT to enable the CP...
