My 250GB IDE 7200.8 is the quitest hard drive I have owned (quieter than the Samsung 250GB SATA I just got, which has horrible seek noise). It's suspended with a NoVibes III, I can't hear the idle noise with the case cover closed and the seek noise is only barely audible in the middle of the night. ...

eh, you went 250. shame on you. they only tested 200 gb nidec's. I feel that idle speed is everything. i hardly seek much at all even in games or anything, so idle and lifespan of that sound level not changing is key to me. Well I needed the space, so I'm not that fussed about it. I just hope that ...

I just received my 250GB SATA version yesterday. The motor is NIDEC. I have it suspended using NoVibes 3. The seeks are MUCH louder than my 160GB JVC P80 and 250GB Seagate 7200.8. Idle noise is quieter than both hard disks, vibration is better than the P80 and on par with the Seagate. I've tried the...

Ok, I have mangled my NB47J just so that I can move my video card from the bottom slot to the top slot and run it at 16x. But now my temperatures have risen sharply - 46 degrees idle, 49 load. It used to be 40 idle 44 load... And performance increase is negligable. Oh well, guess as long as it stays...

I'm also using a XP120 and while the first 2 RAM slots are really hard to get to, it is possible. I managed to install RAM into the first DIMM slot after the XP120 was already installed. Helps if you have smaller hands. Don't you mean the 3rd/4th ram slot? The slots are numbered from top to bottom ...

I just had mine setup and so far it's doing quite ok. Idle chipset temps are 40 degrees C with a NB47J and a Nexus 120mm fan blowing on it. Side panels are on. My Gigabyte 6600GT idles at 50 degrees C. CPU (3200+) idles at 27 with a Papst 120mm at 7V. I'm also using a XP120 and while the first 2 RAM...

Re: Power for PCI-e graphics card
I have been lurking around on this site for ages now and I am finally posting a message. :D I am in the process of building a HTPC and I have two questions 1) Does an ASUS EN6600GT PCI-e graphics card require a power connection direct from the power supply? (I can't seem to find an answer on this a...

I just got my Seagate 7200.8 250GB PATA 8MB today and have been very happy with it. It's suspended with a NoVibes 3, and is quieter than the 160GB JVC motor Spinpoint I was using. Seek noise is about the same, but this drive vibrates much less and idle whine is almost non-existant. The seek is not s...

I was looking for the Chaintech motherboard but looks like no one sells it here. I've actually ordered a DFI motherboard, we'll see how it goes. In the worst case scenario I'll have to have to hack up a Zalman heatsink or get one of those low-profile "ViperSinks" linked to somewhere in this forum. P...

I don't know about other places, but here in Australia I can't find anywhere that sells the 250GB DiamondMax 10. The 300GB one costs $340 while a 250GB 7200.8 PATA costs only $200, which is rather attractive. I'm wondering how the 250GB 7200.8 sounds, as it only has 2 platters instead of 3 on the bi...

DFI NF4 Motherboards
I'm contemplating on getting one of the DFI NForce4 boards, probably the Ultra non-SLI one. But the motherboard chipset sits really close to the video card connectors and doesn't look like it will fit a Zalman heatsink (without some mutilation). Anyone know if the maglev fans they're using will be a...

I just tried it, and yes it does help with the vibration and temperatures are 1-3 degrees lower now. It still has a bit of vibration though, kind of disappointing considering that I have 2 other drives, a 120GB Barracuda V and a 120GB 7200.7 Plus (the new made in China ones) that are quieter and vib...

The NoVibes is suspending the drive, however it still vibrates slightly (although much better than mounting the drive with screws directly in the drive cage). Normally to mount drives in the 5.25'' bays, there are 2 plastic rails which you clip onto both sides of the drive and slide it into the bay....

Case emitting low frequency hum with Samsung HDD and NoVibes
I'm using a Chenbro Gaming Bomb case and have a Samsung 160GB PATA JVC motor mounted in the bottom 5.25'' bay with a NoVibes III. It's resting on the bottom of the bay - unfortunately the plastic rails that hold the 5.25'' drives don't fit. I've double checked the suspension the NoVibes - the drive ...

I replaced the fan in mine with a Panaflo L1A and enlarged the intake vents with a needle-nosed plier. There are threads about this if you search. Considering that the VGA Silencers are quieter than the new ATI Silencers, maybe this would be a better solution (it it works)?
