The fan in the Signatures does tend to make a muted ticking noise at certain speeds - saw this with both of my review samples. If you RMA, you'll probably get the same thing back. In the time the SG-850 was powering my main rig, I learned to tune it out. Most of the time, the other system fans made ...

Nope, it's used to manage inrush current by shorting the NTC thermistors once the unit is powered up. If it disconnected the mains, you'd get no standby power.Ksanderash wrote:There is a relay on the pcb. I bet it disconnects the high voltage circuitry from AC main to avoid unwanted energy waste when standby.

Hint: The Wolf really geek-drooled over his sample. lol! Hey! I resemble that remark! Good review. I'm running my review sample 24/7 in my main computer... couldn't bear to get rid of it. It kicked out a Signature 850W, which is now running my office rig. I'm two feet away from the thing righ...

What I have been wondering is does the size mean they can use some slightly large parts to keep the costs down? I'm just wondering how they have overbuilt it to such a high standard for such a low cost? Essentially, they just really overbuilt it. They used five 60A rated output Schottkys on the 12V...

Well, I no longer have my review sample, but I'll tell you this - it has a load based fan controller rather than a thermal one. If you replace that fan with a smaller one, it won't run it any faster if it gets too hot. Might probably work, but hard to say how well. I'd just try and find a 140mm repl...

The fact that Antec have actually sent a load out to reviewers in special boxes with aditional information enclosed is if anything a sign that the PSU's themselves have been cherry picked. Like Mike said, it's common to get extra review related info. My first Signature review unit had the extra inf...

How is the signature series? My review of the 850W: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=101 I kept the review sample - it was too good a unit not to. I'll have the 650W review up on the site on Monday. Those Nidec PWM fans tend to have a bit of a buzz to them when the ...

There are likely no more Seasonic based Earthwatts units being made... part of the reason they switched to Delta for these is possibly because they wanted Delta for the Signature series. Rumor has it that Delta is pretty demanding with their minimum order quantities... Antec likely moved the Earthwa...

Allied=Deer=junk. It's quite possible it fried some hardware - this would be far from the first time I've heard of them doing it. You'd need an ATX 1.3 unit for that board... most ATX 2.0 units on the market aren't designed for such old hardware. There are still a few lower watt Sparkle/FSP units on...

Not really, unless it has the onboard video. I ran my AK79G-Max first with an FSP 530W and then with a Silverstone ST56ZF. It never really stressed either unit, but then again those are really big units with high capacity on the 3.3V and 5V rails. The problem with these old boards is, you're limited...

I think that your A7N8X is modern enough to be on this side of the "+5V to +12V move", even if it lacks the ATX12V connector. The A7N8X is completely 5V based as far as CPU power is concerned, like my old Aopen AK79G-Max. These boards don't play nice with the VX450, as mentioned, because the VX450 ...

This Asrock board as well as the A7N8X are both 5V based... the FSP Zen was not designed for it. You need something with a high combined 3.3V/5V rating. The Silverstone ST30NF 300W fanless would do it. Otherwise, I'd suggest looking for a mainboard that has an ATX12V connector to go with that Zen, l...

Yeah, these don't seem to handle crossloading as well as other CWT designs. I actually have a CWT 1200W engineering sample (same platform) running my main computer and have had it apart a few times - 3.3V and 5V appear to be filtered on those two daughterboards with the polymer capacitors sticking u...

Re: New Corsair 750W PSU - single 12V rail @ 60A
These "ratings" are the same kind of "fact based fiction" that occurs on home theater receivers today. The label on the front says 7 * 100 watts, but at any given moment only 2 channels can reach 100 watts at the same time. You later see on the back of the receiver max input is 490 watts. Which mea...
