Re: Mini-itx case project
Have to increase the length - the PicoPSU cables interfere with the HDD. Wish they went up instead of outwards.

Re: Mini-itx case project
Here's some pics of a *rough* prototype. I'm still thinking about doing a variation without a case fan. With the case fan blowing into the case, the front vent acts as my own personal fan!

Re: Mini-itx case project
That is the whole idea. In fact I think you should start with the motherboard and a top down cooler... then build the case around that. I think there is something to be said for using a top down cooler with two fans... and no case fan. That means even if one fan fails you still have cooling. That's...

Re: Mini-itx case project
Thanks for the links, both very nice products. Don't know if mine will look quite that nice ;) I'm planning on starting with 0.8 mm galvanized steel and paint it. Aluminum would be nice... hmmm... Do you think using something like that low profile Noctua would make a case fan unnecessary? That's one...

Mini-itx case project
Attached is a first draft of a minimalist case I've been wanting to do for a long time. It's designed based on my own requirements, so it may be a little simple for most people. The top cutout is for a 140 mm fan, which could be mounted either way (and will probably be changing to a circle cutout). ...

Piezo power switch
Has anyone ever used a Piezo switch as a computer power switch? Good idea/bad idea? Would there be any problem when you need to hold down for x many seconds to power off?

Re: What style top vent on my custom case?
The top vent could be considered a side vent depending on how you orient the case (horizontal - top vent, vertical/upright - side vent) Not sure if that counts?

Re: What style top vent on my custom case?
That was a pretty good article, thanks. I appreciate the suggestions. Seems like I can't go wrong with the wire fan guard, and the honeycomb vent doesn't seem too bad either.

What style top vent on my custom case?
I'm making a custom case for my mini-itx board, and I've been trying to decide what style of vent to use on the top for a large fan. The two options I've been toying with are either an open cutout with a typical fan grill/guard, OR make the typical hex grille cutouts. Any thoughts? Do I have to worr...

Re: New concept for smal footprint HTPC system
I love your concept! Sometimes you only need the streaming unit (this houses the motherboard right?), depending on the application (i.e. work/development) or room in the house. How will the modules/units be connected? For example, are you forced to stack them vertically, or if connected by cable can...

I agree, it looks nicer to me also... cleaner, simpler. Also, note the vent locations have changed on the ISK 310-150. They're all on the one corner. And the vent is larger.

No problems at all. I'm currently using it at work. The 5400 rpm drive seems like the bottleneck in the build. I do however like how quiet and cool the 5400 rpm drive runs. I would like to try a 7200 rpm drive. There is a little bit of very quiet noise from the AC/DC adapter when the system is off. ...

Ya, it's not a PicoUPS. It looks identical to the PW-200-M. The PW-70A is slightly longer.

Came across this today:

It's nice to learn that Antec will be providing some Mini-ITX enclosures. Very difficult to see what it looks like though.

SG01B-F/NT06/ST50EF-Plus-SC vs NSK3480 acoustics
Is it possible for a SG01B-F/NT06-Lite/ST50EF-Plus-SC combo with maybe one 80mm Nexus/Other to compete with the NSK3480 in terms of quietness? I previously had a NSK3480 (bone stock, including stock AMD CPU cooler), and I was happy with how quiet it was (even more so with a better CPU fan). Main Com...
