Ok, installed both the drives (with one drive replacing my second DVDROM drive). All drives are detected at startup, with both the newly installed drives showing up with SMART errors (I knew they were a bit screwed anyway). In Windows XP only IDE0 and IDE1 are detected (Drive C and the other Partiti...

Building your own Fan controller?
It can't be that hard... its just a tone pot and a couple of resistors.
Anyone have any links to a project type site? I really need some schematics for the PCB nore than anything.

Silent motherboard?
I need to upgrade my motherboard soon, I've recently gone through and silenced all the noisey bits of my current machine, so I don't want to put in a motherboard that has one of those tiny noisey fans on it!
Any idea which motherboards will be quiet, or which can have fans swapped for heatsinks etc?

Appologies first, as this isn't really an HD silencing thread... I have three HDs. 1x 160GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 (ST3160021A) 1x 160GB Western Digital WD1600 (WD1600JB-00EVAO) 1x 200GB Maxtor (The drives in a box at the minute so I can't get the full specs) I bought the WD drive to replace the S...

I just got the Super Tornado 400 and its amazing! Silent! I was going to go for the 4090 but was put off by some reviews and problem threads on this site. The 120mm fan is more than enough for my systems cooling, I think an extra 80mm would add more noise than bennifit pushing air... if you get what...

You can really hear it? What chip do you have it on? On my AMD 2800+ its silent... a little noisey as its starting up, but when it slows down its silent. If I switch off the other fans the machine is silent. I'm just worried about the HD going bad if I allow it to run without a fan on it. I know it ...

Wow! Silent!
As some of you will know I have the silencing bug :) Wondering what silent compnent I should invest in next (I've recently bought and arctic copper silent cooling TC 2 and a super tornado 400x PSU), I had the bright idea to disconnect both of the 80mm fans in my case. Wow... its amazing, totally sil...

Yup... smell is gone, or maybe I'm just used to it now :) I haven't experienced any ramping... was this a fault with all models or was it more of a lotto??? As usual I can hear the HD accessing now :D, time to get a fan controller then mount the HDs in some sort of bungee device :) Ahh... the life o...

Well its great! No ramping or anything... it does smell a little burny though... That nasty brown out smell... I guess its just setting in though. CPU temps are down considerably! Right down to 49 degrees great stuff! I just need a fan controller now to lower my front and rear case fans to make it p...

Woohoo! Just about to install it! Fingers crossed everything goes ok! :) Just a warning to others in the UK if you're purchasing from xcase.co.uk they didn't even package the bloody thing! The box (the actual box it comes in, no extra packaging at all!!!) looked damaged and scratched to hell with my...

Chaps, any idea if this is a quiet package?
I've heard the thermaltake stuff can be quite noisy.
Thanks

Moulding Latex...
I just found an old tub of moulding latex I made a halloween mask out of a year or so ago. Any idea what latex is like for sound proofing? I'm considering pouring a layer over the inside of my side panels, then topping off with some foam. What do you lot think of this? Will it work, or just be a was...
