Try shifting things around on the 2nd ide channel. with the DVD/CD as master and HD3 as slave? Will do :) I'm sure its not power problem. I can run all kinds of devices off this system without any power problems. That was with my old psu, 230watts, the new one is 400watts, so it should be groovy :)

Ok, installed both the drives (with one drive replacing my second DVDROM drive). All drives are detected at startup, with both the newly installed drives showing up with SMART errors (I knew they were a bit screwed anyway). In Windows XP only IDE0 and IDE1 are detected (Drive C and the other Partiti...

Building your own Fan controller?

It can't be that hard... its just a tone pot and a couple of resistors.

Anyone have any links to a project type site? I really need some schematics for the PCB nore than anything.

Silent motherboard?

I need to upgrade my motherboard soon, I've recently gone through and silenced all the noisey bits of my current machine, so I don't want to put in a motherboard that has one of those tiny noisey fans on it!

Any idea which motherboards will be quiet, or which can have fans swapped for heatsinks etc?

I've just bought a new power supply, so I guess I'll reconnect the drives and see what happens.

Can I get all three drives working as I suggested above?

Jumper settings and detection

Appologies first, as this isn't really an HD silencing thread... I have three HDs. 1x 160GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 (ST3160021A) 1x 160GB Western Digital WD1600 (WD1600JB-00EVAO) 1x 200GB Maxtor (The drives in a box at the minute so I can't get the full specs) I bought the WD drive to replace the S...

When you suspend the drives, how high will you be having them?

I'll be mounting mine about 1cm from the base of my case, that way, if they do slip, its a short trip to the ground.

I just got the Super Tornado 400 and its amazing! Silent! I was going to go for the 4090 but was put off by some reviews and problem threads on this site. The 120mm fan is more than enough for my systems cooling, I think an extra 80mm would add more noise than bennifit pushing air... if you get what...

You can really hear it? What chip do you have it on? On my AMD 2800+ its silent... a little noisey as its starting up, but when it slows down its silent. If I switch off the other fans the machine is silent. I'm just worried about the HD going bad if I allow it to run without a fan on it. I know it ...

Wow! Silent!

As some of you will know I have the silencing bug :) Wondering what silent compnent I should invest in next (I've recently bought and arctic copper silent cooling TC 2 and a super tornado 400x PSU), I had the bright idea to disconnect both of the 80mm fans in my case. Wow... its amazing, totally sil...

Seems great so far, its quieter starting than my FSP Group ATX-250Gt unit, its replacing.

I do have some major SMART errors on my HDs though :( So I'm reluctant to restart the machine incase it all dies :(

I just found an old tub of moulding latex I made a halloween mask out of a year or so ago. Any idea what latex is like for sound proofing? A bit off topic, but how do you check the power meter? Is there a program to download, or are you using a volt meter?
