My experience:
- faulty PSU would freeze PC after hibernation, i.e. no video signal, not sure if the rest of the stuff was up to par. No in-game freezing though.
- OC'ing GPU, with insufficient cooling would freeze the card. This was in experimental (read fanless) mode.

1. Any kind of duct will cause noise. Unless you really need to direct the air flow, like for a HS, ducts are bad. 2. HDDs usually only requires any airflow, just to change the ambient air - they work very well passively, not sure if this applies to multiple setups like yours, but they only put out ...

Fan Control software for Thinkpads here
The CPU fan was driving me nuts (as always), searched the internet and found this handy little app: Shimodax Fan Control It apparently has been extensively tested by users of Thinkpad, see this forum thread: Shimodax' thread @ thinkpads.com , Just put it on my own laptop and CPU runs fanless @ 48 de...

My experience is that aluminum can benefit greatly from damping, i.e. putting a heavy layer of flexible material on the case covers. It's amazing how resonance can make sound - it's best illustrated if you try tapping the case ever so lightly in the "dead" of night. Secondly, you will have airborne ...

I have the Zalman, and as per above, it only adjusts down to 50%, and the feedback on rpm is not very good (flickering LEDs). But, it's rigid and has several cables, among which two have an extra wire for the rpm signal, which you can plug in to your MB. I have two suggestions: 1. This has four knob...

I have the Zalman, som issues are: - Only goes down to 50 % i.e. 6 V - Knob only effective in two-thirds of the angle, i.e. first third all give 12 V (this due to resistor values around the 7815 voltage regulator are 600 for the 'steady' and 900 for the pot - go figure). - Blue leds indicate fan mov...

I broke my Freezer 4 fan, don't know how. I had just "soft mounted" it by placing foam between the fan frame and the fins, and also weighing down the frame with rubber slabs. It cut the noise it was making, the noise initially probably coming from vibration amplification via the MB. Luckily i look i...

That was a real bummer, why did they put the NB there? Is this the same for other PCI-e cards as well? I have a Freezer 4 at home, I'll post the measures when I get there, but I think the base is some 6-7 mm. But then the heatpipes goes straight up from there so I don't think you have the option of ...

It won't light up, the melting point of wire plastics is about 150C, I hope you keep your PSU below that. Heat from CPU to PSU: In the normal setup, the CPU is taking your case temped air and pushing it through the heat sink - this now warmed up air is mixed with the rest of the air inside the case, which in turn is continually refreshed with "cool" outside air. This is a semi-stable state, which will f...

Sure you can! Bear the following in mind: 1. Slower fans means hotter components. 2. Hotter doesn't always mean too hot. 3. What is too hot? This has been argued a lot, e.g. where to measure PSU temp etc. My reasoning is this: the manufacturer has chosen the fan according to a max. operating temp., ...

My opinion: certainly will not reduce noise. Explanation: A duct will always impede air flow, meaning for the same air flow, you need a higher rpm on the fan. The countermeasure would be to use cooler air, to maintain the same component temp @ the same rpm. In this case I see no ducting to cooler a...

Passive=needs no forced air flow. This should mean you're left with only self-induced heat convection. Of course this heat then needs to be evacuated, or you get heat buildup. Point is, putting a passive component in free air should make it function according to spec. Cf. the NB, it's speced at ambi...

Tricky question, I have coil whine mostly when PC has been on for some time, and at low loads (cf. IE scrolling noise). You probably can't go much shorter than that. The Aria has a proprietary PSU, which makes the case 15 mm shorter than the Aspire X-Qpack (www.aspireusa.net) which can take a standard ATX PSU. This length plus the length of the optical drive will probably determine minimum length.

No Q:s are stupid. What is your real Q? In order to answer you have to explain more. I'm guessing you are controling the fan via SpeedFan, and also have the fan hooked up to a FanMate. CPU/PSU compartment
Finally found a good setup for keeping noise and temperatures down. I recently had to buy a new PSU, and decided on the FSP 350-TH with bottom 120 fan. Tried first with using the PSU as an intake towards the HS (fan dismounted on HS), but temps skyrocketed. Apparently my bottom placed case fan was c...

Depends on how you're gonna use it. Controllers that ramp the speed can give annoying revving up and down. Temperature control with threshold temp sometimes does not have the proper range (I have BIOS Fan EQ that works with 60% and 100%, I would like it to go down to at least 40%). Rheobus/Fanmate w...
