These new large gromacs are a test for your rig. I think they are more demanding than prime 95 and or Memtest. They make it tough to OC anything. Actually, my 2500XP is OC'ed ever so slightly to 180MHzX11. Has been rock solid for weeks, folding 600 point Gromacs 24/7 (I average 300+ points/WU now :...

Mine is a Athlon 1300. It does about 350PPW on small units and about 150 on big units. Really is very very slow on the big ones. Admittedly mine is a plain Athlon and not an XP, so yours may be different? Thats weird. How much memory do you have free, typically? I assume that as soon as the compute...

My machine is a stock Athlon 1800XP with 512MB of RAM (always with a couple of hundred meg free). Would enabling big work units on this increase its production? From my personal experience (limited to a 2500XP and a 3200XP) my answer would be: yes. I actually see a full 100% increase in my PPD prod...

No AMD stock coolers on hand. I'd be interested in both XP and A64 variants if you have any. I assume they need to be new, that is, never mounted with the pad intact, so they are really "stock"? If it's fine if the pad is gone, I could help out with two XP stock coolers (one that came with a 2500+,...

General [M]ayhem running away!!!
They are still on our overtake list, but with 40+ new users in the last 7 days, yesterday they have collected more points than we have (49,556 vs. 48,486). This is the first time they manage to increase the gap again in a looong while!!

My point exactly. Suppose you have harddrives that draw an extremely high current of 3A during spinup (Spinpoint series use 1.9A IIRC), and suppose all of that is used on the +12V rail (I'm not sure it is), you can still put at least five, probably six (216W), of these (or 8-9 SpinPoints!!!) and be ...

Sorry, PorBleemo I can't find that statement in the article you cite! They say, on the contrary: The S12 may not match the Tagan for its ability to boot with 25 Amps of load applied, but by returning an incredible 11.70V under that load it simply outperforms every unit we've tested to date. and late...

Thanks peteamer and unregistered for your responses. I'll just wait for now and see if it happens again --- did install a cron job, though, that backs up my folding directory every three hours. MikeC: I think the original poster and larrymoencurly distinguish between fan regulation based on PSU temperature alone, and regulation also taking into account the instantaneous load drawn by the system. larrymoencurly: As to why one would also regulate based on load, I can only speculate. By defi...

Yup, both of my boxes have been folding these 24/7 since Dec 20/21 - recieved 6 in a row so far (3 on each box). They complete in about 2.5 days on my Athlon XP's (2000 and 2200 MHz). Under normal conditions (no big WU bonus) I'd say I can barely make 200ppd. After submitting four of these, I was GR...

do you know what the 2 differences are m8?! According to Mike's RevA3 review , there are several differences: - higher efficiency in RevA3 - different (lower noise) fan - updated/corrected fan controller I think anyone who read MikeC's review of the RevA3 (or the comments from users of the latest R...

Couldn't resist to repeat what I've said in this thread : Don't underestimate the possibility to duct the SuperSilencer! I guess acaurora implied this mentioning the heat from the CPU the ST will take in. In many cases a piece of cardboard and opening a 5.25" bay will suffice for a simple "duct" (fo...

Looks like I'm coming a bit late, but I definately second Tibors recommendation. I failed to ask that question here (or to read the threads) and got two SuperTornados for my two Sonata cases. The 120mm intake of the Tornados is right next to the 120mm exhaust, and both, at least for my MBs, are real...

Thanx for the reply, SebRad! Yes, this is the feedback I was sort of hoping for, and you confirm my feeling that my temps were on the high side, if not dangerously so. Maybe I should look into re-seating that HS again :x , using just the tiniest amount of thermal paste. Because, if I take the HS off...

Even though it looks like I'm mostly talking to myself, I'll just add my temps when folding (these seem to get quoted a lot here, I just downloaded the client and might turn in my first WU this weekend): the thermocouple I placed reads 62-63 degrees C and the socket reports 59 degrees C, MB is at 28...

The temperature probe I ordered has arrived and I installed the sensor next to the CPU die, at the center of the upper (long) edge. I put a dab of thermal compound below, so it would measure the CPU temperature, and a few layers of scotch tape above so the heatsink wouldn't cool it too much. The cab...

Yes, that's my next project: calibrating my sensor. I've ordered a digital thermometer, to get independent readings. Thanks for your replies!! :D geforce1: Yes, I think you're right in that the MB has two sensors, but under Linux I can see only the ASB100 chip sensors right now (even though I thought this board also had a Winbond chip that should be supported). The ASB100 reports on four temperatures, originally l...

CNPS 7000AlCu efficiency with XP's
My box is fairly standard (see sig), yet my CPU temps seem to be significantly higher than those reported by others. Specifically, the Zalman at lowest setting "cools" the CPU to 53 degrees C at idle, and it goes up to 66 under load (2x CPUBurn, K7 mode) :( Ambient temp is 22 and MB is at 30 under l...
