As you say, it's a bit of a lottery with the ebuyer generic stuff. You've just got to keep your eyes open and go by the reviews.
I don't suppose these fans are as quiet as the Panaflos, Papst, Noiseblockers, Nexus's etc but they are a tenth of the price!

Cheap quiet fans from ebuyer.co.uk
ebuyer.co.uk has cheap and quiet fans available in the UK. The 92mm fan is £0.46 and the 120mm fan is £1.05. They are black, no-name devices. The 92mm fan has a 4-pin connector and the 120mm is 3-pin with an adaptor lead to convert to 4-pin. I chose the 92mm fans to run at 5V on intake, exhaust and ...

Well, I said I'd report back when I got my Sapphire Radeon 9100. Had it for a couple of months now and very impressed too. Performance ahead of the Radeon 9000 for less money, and not far from the GeForce Ti4200 for less than half its cost. My 3DMark2001 score increased by nearly 80% I took th...

The heatsink is quite small - smaller anyway than the Enermax in the article. The fan is partly blocked by the transformer, so this doesn't help with the noise. No coil whine or buzz on mine. I've fitted an ARX fan, which is a bit quieter and was very cheap, although it still spins up under load. Th...

I've stuck my fingers in a number of psu's while they were powered up and running a computer (too see how hot the heatsinks/coils were getting) and I never got shocked once. However, I've been shocked several times working on other projects and it really doesn't hurt. It just jiggles your arm a bit...

Check your BIOS. I have the Asus A7V333 mobo and temps dropped by about 15C after I flashed to BIOS rev 1012. Check the Asus site for more details. As far as I know, Asus Probe is fine - your temps look OK as well. Try installing the trial version of CPU Idle - wth Q Fan operating, this enables you ...

WOW! :D Installed CPU Idle and my idle temp dropped by a massive 13C straight away!! With Q Fan operating on my Asus mobo, this meant that my Zalman fan slowed right down and the the PSU did too. Brilliant! This means that I can remove an exhaust fan to reduce noise even further. This has to be one ...

Update your BIOS to a later version to cure this 'problem'. I've got an Asus A7V333 too and was worried about my temps - 67C CPU/37C MB idle according to AsusProbe. This was under BIOS rev 1008. When I flashed to rev 1012 the temps dropped by 10-15C and I was mighty relieved!! BIOS's from rev 1012 h...

Got my Evercool and ARX fans now (thanks Quicklyshop, you are indeed quick!) and tried them out. IMO the ARX was a bit quieter - the Evercool was more whiny and vibrated more. At 12V there was quite a lot of higher frequency noise and some vibration in both (don't believe the claimed 23dBA!). But at...

I've got an HEC-300-LR-PT PSU in my system and it does start really quietly, but when it's warmer/under load it does get louder.
