I installed Folding@Home and it's bringing the CPU to 50% but my temps stay the same. I'm not sure if this is a CPU issue or a mb issue. Before I leave for work I copied and pasted the PC Wizard 2008 info below (neat utility). It's all new equipment so I should be able to get some replacements but n...

Well this is ... something. Back to SpeedFan, it is 4.33 and the readings are the only default settings that appear (system, cpu, aux). PC Wizard is showing me something very scary, or maybe I'm not following. Processor Temp = 195c Processor Temp (core1) = 41c Processor Temp (core2) = 41c Mainboard ...

The major issue is the dreaded nvlddmkm issue which causes games to crash. At first I thought it was a driver issue but it appears to come and go without any updates or changes. Along the way I noticed that if I try to run nTune it will blue screen. So both uGuru and nTune were failing to work and S...

Thank you very much. But now I have no clue what to do. Something is wrong on my end but I have no idea what. I'll see if I get Speedfan installed again and use your instructions to alter the settings. If that works I should be ok but I'd still like to know what the problem is with uGuru. I'm having...

ABIT IP35 Pro, uGuru, Vista 64
Anyone have the ABIT IP35 Pro and Vista 64? If so, can you run uGuru? When I do the application fails with an error WBEM_E_INVALID_CLASS that pops up in a dialog box several times then closes the application. I tried posting at the ABIT forums but didn't get a response. I just worry I have a hardwar...

Flash bios without floppy?
Seems like I tried this a year ago and never got it to work but is there a way to flash the bios when building a new system without installing a floppy? I'd like to keep the case clean and not have a floppy and I just realized I don't have a spare one so I'd really like to avoid buying a new one. Bu...

I would strongly recommend putting on the CPU outside the case. Maybe it's just me but I have had issues with the clamp mechanisms on my cpu coolers and having to work in cramped quarters just makes it insanely more difficult. The mb going into the case is what I try to do last. I would also very st...

Here a somewhat older link with the info you are looking for Choosing the Right Memory for Core 2 Duo Platform - Part 1 , part 2 and part 3 part3 . Happy reading ;) Awesome articles. I searched for stuff on CL but this didn't pop up in the search. I ended up with 6400 and CL5. I could find CL4 but ...

this is my favorite line from the MicroCenter product page: "Usually ships in 7-21 business days." That's the equivalent of saying - "we don't have it" It's even funnier when they give you the option for in store pickup yet keep that line about 7-21 days. I think you're right though, probably means...

Here's another example: Corsair DDR2 PC6400 CL5 ($119 - $40 rebate) = $79 G.Skill DDR2 PC6400 CL4 = $125 Without the rebate we're only $6 different in price for 1 step in CL. With the rebate it's a big difference in price. But if that 1 step in CL is something you can see outside a benchmark is what...

I'm baffled why you would be looking at such slow memory. Are you on a very tight budget? That's kind of the point of the thread. I'm not sure how important the CL factor is. And I'm not sure what effect it has going to the lower CL but then a worse speed. PC2 6400 CL4 (800 MHz) memory is mainstrea...

Choosing memory
Just when I was going to place my order at NewEgg a number of items went out of stock. The first was memory and while searching the video card went out of stock. So, I thought it was "a sign" and instead of just plowing forward I'm going to post and ask about memory. I'm looking at 4GB of DDR2. I wa...

I might agree that raw performance isn't everything if the power consumption is dramatically different. The same would go for a cpu - you would only be tempted to get a slower cpu for the same price if the power or heat were significantly lower to justify the loss in performance. But I guess I never...

3870 and 8800gt prices
What am I missing? I'm close to placing an order for my game rig and when looking at video card I'm not sure why the HD 3870 is similar in price to some 8800gt cards. From what I thought I read here the 3870 is a nice card but lags the 8800gt in performance. So why would I pay the same for a card th...

However, you still have the problem that Asus used a proprietary temp sensor on the card so there is no way to monitor the temperature of the card without using their crap software. Speedfan, nvidia monitor, etc will not work here. Also, there is no way to edit the fan speed, period. I didn't know ...

ASUS EN8800GT vs Sapphire 3850
I may build a new Vista x64 game system soon and I was looking at maybe upgrading from the 7950 to get some DX10 support. I found this ASUS 8800 GT card which claims to have a "Glaciator" Fansink. Right now I have a passive 7950 so going from no fans to any fan will be more noise but the size of thi...

I heard about this on the radio and they had a funny comment. If you make a car this small, why try to make it a 4 door? Regarding comments on safety, I used to think like others that how can such a vehicle be approved for the roads and then someone brought up motorcycles. If you allow a vehicle wit...

I still have 3 weeks to wait while my gigabyte motherboard sits there, unused. Sad, I want Intel power, now! Worst part of the waiting is that prices drop and other products pop up on the radar. For me, a few passive video cards are now available at NewEgg so I might need to add them to my budget t...

A 3D drawing program would show the whole setup better I guess.....but that's too much for me. Beggars can't be picky but I won't say you need a 3D drawing program. All I was thinking was taking what you have and then adding some arrow icons to the images. Of course that means you have some kind of...

Antec Overture 2 and PSU
My HTPC failed a while back and after buying a cheap psu tester at CompUSA I suspect the psu failed in the Antec Overture 2. I was going to throw in some spare parts and revive the HTPC but I noticed a normal psu didn't fit. For now I'm using a mid tower case for my HTPC and in the future I may buy ...

Well not exactly. The HD scoop in this last photo was there only for the no-duct test. The main duct now has a built-in scoop. It does steal some airflow, but not much. You can feel it when you put your finger over the drives when the setup is running. It's enough airflow to keep the drives under 3...

I just recalled reading a link posted here about the HD cards and how they could be a decent deal compared to the 8800 cards if price was lower and supply was better. I did a quick check and seems like the HD cards are priced similar to these HD 3000 series. Seems like the 8800s are a better deal in...

I re-read this again and I think I finally get it. So you replaced the old duct that tool the air and sent towards the top and replaced it with the duct mounted to the HD assembly to just steal some airflow from the bottom fan. I would guess not much air is going towards the drives but it sounds lik...

Ha. I should be happy except it's totally killing my budget. Now I have to consider this card for my next Vista build.skj wrote:Newegg has it in stock now.

Roughly $70 more than their cheapest 3850 card.
