Re: Gigabyte A75M-UD2H Mainstream FM1 Motherboard
Excellent review. Is the USB3 finally bootable? My 880/890GX aren't ! With CPU + GPU combined in the same die are huge coolers still necessary? I'm annoyed with Gigabyte's lack of fan control but I'm sticking with them because of Asus' overall quality problems.

XBMC works ok for you? It crashes on my machines, but it's the only way I know to play commercial DVDs in Linux. I get suspend/resume freezing & video corruption.

Re: Phenom II X4 955 and Athlon II X4 640 idle power?
Both of them are way overkill for a file server if you ask me. :) Yes the performance as file server is fine with my 4850e CPU. I am a little bit "torn between two hay taps" or what they say. It is nice to make use of my low power 4850e CPU, it works withot problems for most tasks, but a little bit...

38W is about average for today's systems, Intel or AMD. I get 39.5, see 2nd post with photo in thread:

Very interesting stuff. Mini ITX is very easy to cool, no need for stack effect, but it would be fun to try with 125W+ CPU / GPU.

I use Arctic Silver (5?) and the stuff that came with Thermalright and Prolimatech heatsinks... they all work about the same. When I'm testing temporary setups I go bare-metal, I don't even bother with TIM because you have to clean it afterwords. Bare-metal works OK with good heatsinks, runs only a ...

Re: TR Ultra-120 eXtreme Rev.C & AC Freezer Xtreme Rev.2
Thanks, great review, though the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Rev.C is hardly new, I've been using one since November 2009. With the AMD scissor mount, the cooler indeed overhangs the bolts making them hard to reach. But you can twist the heatsink a few degrees clockwise, enough to get a straight ...

ha, you put a honking video card on that itty bitty mobo... 55w is very good, does the NVIDIA card throttle when idle? Yep. If the video card didn't, there's no way it'll use just 55W idle. Haven't really put it through my usual battery of tests (Furmark, IBT, etc), though. I don't think the GTS 45...
