Re: re-using an older case with a new CPU cooler?
Are there any modern CPU coolers that would fit in an older PC case (circa 2007) that doesn't have a cutout in the MB tray? The CPU cutout is only there to make it easier to install/remove the cooler. The backplate doesn't actually stick out all the way through the motherboard tray. I was using a N...

Re: Seagate Desktop 4TB, any input?
They're pretty good drives IMO. Subjectively, they're only a little bit noisier than some WD Green 2TB (EARX) drives I was using before (makes sense, 5900RPM vs. 5400RPM). Vibration is about the same as well. No comment on temps, as I've got mine tucked inside a GUP Smart Drive enclosure (39 celcius...

Re: Power consumption for the DH77KC
Don't have the board, so I can't help with exact figures. I highly doubt that being ATX would necessarily make it consume more power than an mATX or mITX board. More "features"/chips/IO on a motherboard generally means higher power consumption. There are very few aftermarket chips on that Intel moth...

most people who think they need a fanless system, really do not. how far away will this case be away from the user? will it be vesa mounted? my monitor is 3+ feet from me, with a m350 behind it i cant even hear the stock intel fan. -i do have the fan running @ really low rpms. but the cpu (E2220 TD...

Nanoxia fans appear to come with the same soft gooey silicone grommets included with the Nexus Real Silents (just in a different colour -- green). Worth a look if you haven't decided on the fans yet.

plenty of room for 3 more drives in there, you just have to get a bit crafty. Crafty or ghetto? In my mind, im thiinking of zipties. For the Silverstone FT03, perhaps a custom aluminium HDD cage (or even a ready-made one if you can find something suitable) situated where the PCI-e slots are? Should...

Actually they do run pretty good without a fan attached. My dad used to have a Thermaltake Blue Orb II in his PC, cooling his Core 2 Duo E4600. Looks like this, but with the fan removed: http://oi50.tinypic.com/4k8y0l.jpg Had it in a TJ08-E, with the front 180mm fan removed (used elsewhere), but wit...

Hey guys, new to this forum and looking for some direction that I'm hoping someone may be able to assist with. Must be slightly cheaper for them to do that, rather than pay for a 2x USB3 hub. Makes sense from the maker's point of view, considering how much/little they're asking for the case.Olaf van der Spek wrote:Why do they only include one front USB3 port? Doesn't the mobo header support two ports?

The exception being Asus motherboards that would allow both CPU's to run at 3.6GHz on all four cores (set by default I think). This would probably make change their effective TDP values to be nearly identical.

Re: Silent Case: More Airflow, or Controlled Airflow
Abula said it all IMO. :) Either: 1) Open ventilation case (eg. Corsair Air 540), with components carefully chosen for near silent operation with minimal/no imperfections in the character of their noise (eg. fans clicking/tickling/chugging). You'll get the best airflow with this type of case, but th...

Setup a custom fan speed curve in MSI Afterburner. You'll be able to lower the fan/s to something inaudible, or maybe even stop them altogether when the GPU is idling.

Also came across Sekisui 5760 in a search. I can vouch for Sekisui #5760 as a reliable thermal tape. Used it with my 2x 5770 rig a couple of years ago, and never had any of the RAMsinks fall off. As with any thermal tape, press down firmly for about 30 seconds to ensure good contact. http://oi52.ti...

Another possibility if you have extra PCI slots available, using a case fan held on with silicone fan mounts: Accelero S1 rev. 2 and installing Noiseblocker fan Presumably could be done using the card's stock heatsink and an 80mm case fan. :) http://s15.postimg.org/5v91hyeln/PNY_6800_GT_Accelero_S1_...

I would still like to see a comparison between the regular and S/T versions of the chips just to see if there is a difference during idle. And, if the regular chips downclocked to the S/T clockspeeds would yield the exact same savings in TDP. Already been done in the past, and no reason to think th...

Re: Any experience with the Haswell T low power CPUs?
So the general consensus is that the S and T models are for motherboards that don't have downclocking or undervolting capabilities? Agreed. I can make my "65W" Celeron G1610 into a "35W" CPU, by lowering the clock speed from 2.4GHz to 1.6GHz, and undervolting as well (though my Gigabyte H77M-D3H do...

Re: How does Antec P182 measure up to current silent cases?
Anyway, I looked into the idea of using the external bay slots for USB3, though I'd rather find a replacement for the current front ports; I looked around, and at least one person who was going to try it seems to have given up and just bought another case. The main reason I don't want to do that is...

Re: How does Antec P182 measure up to current silent cases?
I got a Corsair Obsidian 550D for this new build, but when examining it, I find the P182 feels much more solid and well-constructed in comparison. It is a bit old now, of course, and its front-panel only has USB 2.0 on it. I felt the same when I went from my P182 to a P280. They don't make 'em like...
