Best Byte is the cheapest that I found with a fix shipping charge of $5. The problem I have with them is that it took over a week for my order to get to me. If you don't mind the wait, they are the way to go.

The 3rd wire is not a tach. It is use to tell if the fan is running or not and not what rpm it is at.

I love my new slk-800a!

Just got my slk-800A yesterday and I love it. The CPU temp drop by 6C over my volcano 7+ with the same low speed NMB 80mm fan. I'm going to try a sunon fan and put a fanmate on it to see how much it will drop. My current temp is 51C without load and 60C running prime95 with room temp at 21C. By the ...

Why is the PS louder while in the case?

I brought a Fortron FSP300-60PN and test it outside of the case by shorting the green w/ the black wire. It was so quiet that I didn't even think it was on. I have to place my ear about 2 inches (5 cm) from the unit before I can hear it. However, as soon as I put it in the case, it was louder. The n...

Want I'm thinking is hooking up a 12v (11 - 13V) deep cycle battery directly to a DC PS. I believe this would allow me to go fanless because there is no need for converting 120 AC to 12 DC. I'm hoping that this will reduce the heat in the PS and it'll make a great UPS. I want the PS to have the stan...

Anyone out there know where I can get one of these in the US? I want a ps that takes a 12V DC as the input. I know they make it, I just don't know where I can get one.

I couldn't figure out why people think the maxtor is quiet. I just purchase a 120 maxtor and the seek is the loudest of the 3 major brands. Yes, I agree that the WD has lot of spin/bearing noise but the seek is better than the maxtor. Overall, the seagates the quietest overall including the 7200.7.

From the pic, it is not self contain. There are two water hose connection on the back. Still, it is fanless and since it is water cool, its better than the prosilence. Now all we need is someone to sell this in the US and Canada.

Having just one fan to cool the radiator w/ hot water coming from the CPU, graphics card and the PSU may not be enough. If you have a big radiator and two 120 attach, you should be OK. Also, as mention before, you'll still need a case fan.

If you have a power supply that starts at 12V and than drops to 5v for the fan, why can you just tap into that line? Maybe have a circuit that reads the voltage on that line and match it with the out to the fan (power coming from another source)?

Re: It could work!

Nope, remember that the heads float across the surface of the disk on a cushion of air. No air and the heads would drag along the surface, leaving pretty little scratches
Even normal 3.5" desktop Harddrive? They must have change the design somewhere along the way.

It could work!

I think that a hard drive in a vacuum would work. How about water cool the hd. All you have is two hose going into the vacuum. Also, wouldn't the hd work better? There won't be any air resistance so the disk can spin freely and the head could move back and forth quicker?

God! I should have realize that that is max noise level and may not be the noise level at 12 v. It looks like from the chart that lower CFM is not always lower dB-A. Using your example. A 80mm 24 cfm FBA fan is spec at 21 dB-A which is the L1 but a 80mm 24 cfm FBL is at 33 dB-A which is the M1. So is the chart wrong and the discription and the graph is right?

I am looking at the Fanaflo FBL series fans. FBL are "Louvered design increases air flow and decreases turbulent noise at standard rating conditions." While the FBA are "fans force air out in a 'funnel' type pattern and are ideal when cooling a specific area that is surrounded by numerous components...
