Re: Is my CPU fan going bad? And how do I replace it?
yep, fan speed can be controlled by motherboard, if youve got a 4-pin pwm fan header, then take a good look at the slipstream pwm. as for the mount... backplate says to me that there should be screws somewhere. undo those. alternatively you might just pull your whole motherboard and gently do the fa...

Re: RAID board for my MB?
i just want to ask you something before you spend any more money on this motherboard... what ram do you have? im wondering, because if its compatible, you might just want to buy an AM2+ motherboard, and an athlon II dualcore cpu... the speed boost over a nocona should be large. also, lower power dra...

Re: buying HDDs based on vibration levels, recommendation?
other than what you could gather from the recommended hard drives list; i would suggest suspension in the 5.25" bays. nothing beats it, and then you can select from a larger pool of drives. laptop hdds should vibrate less, just as a rule... you'll probably be safe getting something lower than 7.2k r...

nothing to worry about. it will get plenty of airflow in there. just mount it with the fan to the top.

4 ports. PCI-X. slow, but cheap. <-you'll have to look into pci-x bandwidth yourself to see if you think it'll be able to provide enough bandwidth. 4 ports. PCIe x4. fakeraid, but thats fine for raid0 in my opinion, you shouldnt be mirroring for data backup. go with incremental backups, and unplug ...

Re: Is my CPU fan going bad? And how do I replace it?
to me, that does sound like your fan is wearing out. 1. look at the recommended 120mm fans article. i seem to have misplaced my personal favorite parts list. 2. there should be little rubber things that go through the holes in the corner of the fan, and kinda into the heatsinks fins. thats the mount...

Re: 'Noob' considering P182 silencing (mods)
about the acoustipack: you have to have an extremely quiet system for it to make a difference. i'd look at suspending any hard drives you have before moving onto foam. with your tricools: try running them at 7v and 5v with molex mods; then turning the switch to low. from my experiments, the tricool ...

im gonna jump in here and back the GTs as well. not sure i'd get the high rpm one, but rather something like the 1450rpm one(the 1150 might work fine). you can go onto any forum with a bunch of watercoolers, and they'll point you to the gt for static pressure. the silverstone ap is just a fan with a...

if you only have that one hard drive, then look into the " NoiseMagic NoVibes III " (old spcr link, theyre still being made) with that, you just have to find a decent midtower. just gotta find a balance of looks, performance, features and price... and how much it will actually take/cost to make it q...

Re: micro ATX advantage?
The new Asus P8 motherboard in full ATX has much better power/voltage regulation than mATX boards. a very valid point. the feature sets on full atx boards can get a lot more impressive than their matx brethren. we dont know what kind of system op is even considering though, just what the pros and c...

Re: micro ATX advantage?
if you are not bothered by the feature set of a particular mATX board (they generally offer almost everything a full size board does, though generally multicard vga setups dont get a lot of love); i would say go with micro. the cost is generally lower. but perhaps more relevant is that there is less...

what are you using to control fanspeed?
speedfan would allow you to control the fan based off of any temperature reading... if your board supports it.

Re: new system not working w/ pico PSU.. despite lower power
your new system might be drawing less power overall, but if it's asking for more of its power from the 5v rail than your picopsu can handle that might be the issue.

i was basing it more on the part where picopsus pass the 12v through from the adapter, whereas i assume theres going to be a fair bit more regulatory circuitry in a standard psu.

that could also be a side effect of the power from the wall not being um.. clean?
if you ran a UPS or some form of power conditioner i wonder if you'd have the same issue. or did you, and the problems occurred regardless?

Re: Samsung F4EG/HD204UI vs. Hitachi 5K3000 for RAID6
as for tler, theres a reason you cant enable it on hitachi or samsung: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-Limited_Error_Recovery i have both drives btw. they're not identical: the hitachi spins at 5.9k, where the samsung is at 5.4k; this leads to a bit better performance for the hitachi, but a little...
