You should go for a lower RPM fan if you want it to be silent. Maximum 1200-1300 rpm at 12v like the Nexus or a Yate Loon

RAID 0 will increase the performance on hard drive intensive applications and, if you install Windows on a RAID 0 array, the boot time will be reduced However, since it's less " secure " in case of drive problems, I keep my personal and important files on a non-raid drive and I backup them on an ext...

well at least you know it's not coming from the power supply. Any other component in your computer could be making that noise. I suggest you start by unplugging the power from each component and stop every fan. you could even try to remove the video card to see if the sound is coming from it

However, since the Celeron is less powerful, it'll stay longer under load than the Pentium Dual core to do the same task. The computing power per watt is higher with the Pentium dual core

don't remove the fan if you're using a fanless PSU. Those PSUs should always be used with proper ventilation, cutting the back of the case might be a solution

Where to buy a Thermalright HR-03 PLUS ?

NCIX don't have them in stock for months, same for Direct Canada. Is there any other good reseller in Canada for the HR-03 PLUS ?

Unless you have more than 4 drives, you should use the lower chamber with the fan blowing towards the back of the case please... a 120mm fan at 600-800 rpm like a Yate Loon should be more than enough

You'll have to ask that question to Intel. In my opinion, they were too quick to get rid of that " old " technology

The Gigabyte controller is there to provide an IDE connector because the newest Intel southbridges don't have one. It's only an added value if they also support RAID. I have the GA-P35-DS3R and RAID works on both the Gigabyte and the ICH9R. I think angelkiller's board comes with the ICH8 southbridge...

Here it is. There'a about half an inch between the Ultra-120 and the top of the NB cooler. With a fan on the upper drive cage there should be plenty of cooling for the Northbridge http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/8475/ultra120extremejf4.th.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1319/cpuzix1.th.jpg...

Idle at 54C is pretty much impossible with a stock cooler unless your temperature in the case is 40-45c. The SI-120 should be much better than the stock cooler. did you calibrate the temperature sensor ? I've seen sensors with a 15C offset http://www.silentpcreview.com/article191-page2.html use the ...
