System rebuild with a change.. and a scare!
Especially the cause of the scare makes this worth mentioning.. Bear with me.. Today I decided to rebuild my computer with better wiring and placement of damping material. A good excuse to clean the dusty innards of this trusty computer as well. My system was quiet enough, but since I had a 120mm an...

Tzupy, Just today we (colleague and me) build a 6600 PCI-E GT SLI setup on the MSI K8N diamond.. The VF700 fits! (on both) Contrary to what Zalman says, we just tried it, which is easy as our job is selling them. So yes it just fits, fine, and at low speed seems to have more than enough cooling powe...

Hi, Does your MSI 6600 look like the top one in this pic? http://members.home.nl/taselaar/6600.jpg If so, it seems to has the mounting holes at the same place as the lower of the 2, which would make the Zalman fit in 'my' case! (pc for a friend sadly) The new Zalman VF700 doesn't fit Nvidia PCIE car...

Zalman heatpipe HD cooler and Nexus.. 'mini review'
Hey folks, I had my hands on the Zalman HD cooler (the blue aluminium blocks with the many heatpipes) and I'm not impressed.. The space between the aluminium blocks is more than 1mm wider than the width of the Seagate HD that was put into it. This means that the screws need to be tightened quite fir...

Quality job there Ralf! Back on topic, I have a sample of all 3 Nexus fans here: 120, 92 and 80mm. 120: Very impressive. Very very faint 'whirring' but far less than half of a Papst 4412FGL. Occasional slight bearing noise, very slight. Overall, very smooth and clearly better than Noiseblocker / Pap...

It's organge, around 12cm square... It's a Nexus! :) I can confirm that they are better than my Papst fans now, definitly the best 120mm yet. I do not know how much air it moves compared to the Papst at the same RPM, the fan blades are totally different in shape. The 92mm Nexus is excellent as well,...

XP-120 + Nexus 120mm problem!
Hey all, Making a mega pc for my colleague, Athlon fx55, Nforce 4 SLI etc etc. I got a Nexus Breeze with the 400W psu, a nexus 120mm for the CPU (Thermalright xp-120). I had to fit the heatsink reversed to make it fit but it seems to fit well, appart from the heatpipes blocking DIMM1 on the MSI K8 D...

Sadly I don't have one of those nice widescreen LCD's to try but all 'modern' (geforce 2 and up, ati 8500 and up) cards allow for 'custom resolutions' to be used perfectly well.. Lots of positive feedback on the Nexus 120mm, but how are the smaller Nexus fans? Same quality? Panaflo and Papst beaters?

The SLK900 is a great heatsink, with one downside.. 80 and 92mm fans have a considerable 'overhang' as the heatsink itself is only about 90x60mm. If you're into 'modding' you can get a lot more out of the SLK900A by making a duct from a 120 or 92mm fan to 90x60mm so that no air passes by the heatsin...

I've mentioned my fan experiences at a few places already but here goes: the Noiseblocker 120 (slowest one) compared to a Papst 4412FGL is no match, especially if you run the fans at 5v or less. The Papst are much better to the ear whereas the Noiseblockers emit a high pitch constant sort of whine a...

I'm using Papst 4412FGL fans for about 2 years now. At first I wasn't too happy with them, however at VERY low voltages it is the only 120mm fan that doesn't produce medium or high pitched noise. So at the required 500rpm ish, I can hear a 'whirr' type motor sound, like a tiny diesel engine. However...

How slow is your cpu fan running?
Just out of curiousity, what RPM is your cpu fan running (cpu fully loaded) and what sort of cpu / voltage is it cooling? I keep being amazed at my own setup: AMD Athlonxp 256kb cache 1980 mhz 1.54v 120mm Papst 4412FGL fan ducted to Thermalright SLK900A at 420RPM (below self starting voltage :)) You...

The thing is, disconnecting the monitor doesn't stop the card from 'rendering the screen image'.. It just has nowhere to send it too.. I'm not sure where it 'stops' but I think the card, with no monitor attatched, does exactly the same 'work' as one with a screen attatched. Sounds like you need to Z...

I did the same thing.. When my first €9 generic 300W (yeah right) PSU died because of me taking this 'must be silent' thing a bit too far with the fan at 3volt, I used its heatsinks on the 2nd €9 PSU to double the surface area. The 80mm fan (not standard) runs at 870rpm now. Heatsink 1 never gets ov...

I think this is the slowest 120mm out there at 720RPM / 12V. Vibrations are quite noticable which wher...

Have you found a good way to consistently measure the fan CFM output not just at 12 but at all voltages? If so, great! If thats not possible (could be a tricky thing!) then IMO the more fair deal is to compare all fans by having them at the same RPM. Perhaps fan 1 runs at 1000rpm at 7v wheras fan 2 ...

Firstly a brief overview of my system cooling: - two 120mm fans mounted in the side panel (holes cut of course) using bolt/nuts with a bit of foam inbetween for damping. Both bring air into the case. - the top one is ducted directly to the CPU heatsink: Thermalright SLK900A which works a lot better ...

Why no 'intelligent' fan controllers?
Why are there no 'invisible' fan controllers? I have the AKASA 5.25'' bay controller, it works well, but with at least 2ghz processing power why not use 0.01% of that power for a more intelligent approach? How about some internal USB operated device that can deal with enough fans and temperature sen...
