Maybe keeping at a constant 45dC helps somehow? I've not done this so I really don't know. Lots of biological processes have a smell peak which then tapers off, maybe this is the same? The pics obviously don't show the degree of odour- large or small. You can buy canola oil varients which have a hig...

Drill holes, insert tube, plaster/silcone gaps around tubes, insert cables through tubes, plaster gaps inside tubes (this way it's still not hard to change cables later if needed). Even a good chest freezer would probably not cool a cutting edge rig without CPU heat below zero. They just aren't buil...

I've done it, as have lots of others. The problem is most fridges don't have anywhere near enough cooling power to handle a modern (ie 200-400w heat load) PC. They are built for cooling non heat producing stuff. It could work if you water cooled your CPU externally to the fridge- it could make for a...

With all respect El~Jefe, that was a clueless post. Firstly, oil cooling can be VERY inexpensive- secondly a PC won't necessarily disolve. Proving both points- a German guy has had a PC (including the PSU) submerged in the cheapest canola oil he could find, for almost 2 years now. Still works perfec...

Thanks everyone for your contributions. I had worked on the ideas further, was just in the process of starting to build my system (which had developed to a 10cm thick walled poured cement case with one open side facing down, and all wiring & plumbing in place before pouring the cement. Case would be...

Wow, Thermotek look hot. I only found this article via google, thinking I'd exhausted SPCR's knowledge base on this subject some time ago. I believe it would be very helpful if this article could be moved from being buried amongst every product review SPCR has ever done, to the DIY page. Cheers, Sho...

I considered an external radiator for a while. The problem for me was I didn't want condensation issues in winter (or any time) when outside temps were a lot cooler than inside. A solution I came up with was placing the rad in a vertical case, with the rad on top of a vertical divider. Then a large ...

Here's a heap of pics of a rig that's been running for 18m in the cheapest canola oil the guy could buy, without changing the oil in all that time. http://www.markusleonhardt.de/en/oelbilder.html Notice- cover removed from PSU to aid oil circulation, & the h/drive is outside tank. Also- submerged fa...

Please don't submerge h/drives in an oil cooled computer setup. I encouraged submerged oil cooling over at OCAU but hadn't mentioned this, & someone lost a drive. I felt terriable. People have tried sealing drives a number of ways, & dropping them in for total silence, the problem is even if sealing...

I had a similar decision to make. I too, have 3 w/blocks & 2 rads. In the end however, the difference between 2l min & 6l min flow rates usually equates to less than 3dC in CPU temps. I was astonished to learn this- but the graphs are over at ProCooling. So... unless those extra 2-3 degrees C are wo...

I'm very attracted to the idea of submerging whole PCs (minus h/drives). In this case however, there's sort of no need. I'll already have total silence. If I hadn't already bought a heap of water cooling stuff I'd be more tempted this time around, but as I have, I'd be in trouble with my wife if I s...

Sadly, I'm not using the TEC yet- just putting the h/drives outside, & passively water cooling the rest. The only noise makers left will be the pump- which will be submerged in a large jar of water, & the PSU, which I'll drop in a tiny fish tank full of canola oil. So, total, utter silence (I presum...

Hmm, Outside my office is a carport with some shrubbery, so you could sit in the shade & drink the beer, largely out of site from the street. In essance, what I'm describing is putting an entire computer in a TEC powered fridge, with siliconed holes for 240v cable/monitor/USB/Firewire cables. Normal fridges are both noisy & underpowered for this job, alas. Yes, opening the "fridge" would change the air, but draining away condensate in a h...

In another thread here, someone mentioned this elegant looking system only having a laughable 90l/h pump. If true, it would seem Thermal-Take-Your-Money have put lots of effort into cosmetics, but not enough into performance issues. You might want to check this out & add the cost of an extra pump if...

Pump noise when submersed?????
Hi All, Can anyone give me an idea of the noise that the Eheim 1250 & 1048, the L30, etc. will give when submerged in a bucket. I'm trying for a <15db 4800+ system, and at this stage the water pumps are the outstanding issue. I realise hose vibration exists, but understand this can be dampened using...

Update
MY PLAN UPDATED- * Cool the CPU (& maybe NB, GPU?) using water blocks, a pump, & a large copper/brass car water radiator, with no fans, attached to a wall. I'll use 2 radiators if needed, but plan to start with one. * Use an old bar fridge as a case. Advantages- it is air tight (I presume), offers r...

I really don't want any air vents, this would undo the whole idea of a single packet of air being de-humidified by a cold plate. Adding warm, water-rich air, is not the goal. Also, I'm talking of large TEC's, but only at low power, so they are more efficient. I'm not strong on the maths, but underst...

Using TEC as a condensation-attractor in a sealed system???
Hi All, As previously mentioned, I'm out to build a fast/stable/totally silent rig. TEC's have great appeal, but control & condesnation seem to be huge issues, & I'm not about to try home-waterproofing my system, & play till it pops. I think I have a new idea. (At least in days of searching I haven'...

Such elegent radiators aren't available in Australia, but for A$180 I can buy a new copper/brass car radiator, with brass fittings & cover plates I supply, solidered on for free. It will be big, ugly, and not designed for passive cooling- but it should work fairly well. I just don't trust it to pass...

I was originally going to use the BIP3 with low speed fans inside a large cuatom case, to cool everything. However, I realised that while this would be fine for the CPU, the h/drives might not like being "cooled" to 50dC. Unfortunately I'd already bought the BIP3, & 5 h/drive water cooling thingys, ...

New try at powerful silence- 3 water loops, help welcomed!
Hi All, I am after a very fast & very silent system (aren't we all!) so I built a custom H/D box, & used long cables. http://www.renaissance.com.au/Stuff/HDcase1.jpg Originally I was going to suspend the drives but realised this probably wasn't necessary. http://www.renaissance.com.au/Stuff/HDcase2....

Thanks for the above lines of enquiry. Very inspiring. I'm now planning to use a peltier to cool a case water loop, and passively cool the peltier using a large radiator. 2 pumps, one peliter, no fans. To do this I'd insert the peltier into a normal water loop, with a water block attached to each si...

An idea I'm itching to see if anyone's done is- Use a large undervolted peltier with a water block on each side- one side cools the CPU etc, the other side goes to a large passive radiator (ie a car radiator). Why not just leave out the peltier altogether? Well the radiator would work heaps better w...
