Yeah, the original P180 does require some cutting for good cable management. It's not as bad as you may think though. All you need is a dremel (or similar make) tool and a little time. I've done it before and I even have pics if you wanna go that route. Alternatively, The P182 is the P180 with cable...

Lookie what came in the mail.... :x http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/7597/img1994g.jpg Sadly, I wonder which is faster. The 00VYA WD sent me or a 2.5in 7200rpm drive. It might be close.... Not happy here. I just traded my fast, reasonably quiet drive for this crap. I'll be in contact with WD.... S...

I sent one of my AAKS-00B3A drives to WD because I had bad clusters on it. Those idiots sent me back the dual platter version : AAKS-00VYA. Now I am stuck with a slower and noisier drive. Is there anything I can do ? Can I ask them to send me the same drive version I sent them originally ? No way! ...

A good place to start is to first, identify your sources of noise. Then you can easily replace the offenders.

Can anyone comment on the drive's noise? It's a notebook drive, so I'd imagine it would be pretty quiet. If anyone wants performance numbers, here's a link to a HD Tune bench. About the same performance of a 1st gen (ie 250GB/platter) Greenpower. I'm mostly interested because its the same price as a...

Hi, and Welcome to SPCR! When you say "single slot" do you mean just the cooler needs to be a single slot, or the cooler plus the card must be a single slot. Keeping the card and the cooler inside a single slot will be difficult. However, if you don't mind the card and cooler taking up two slots tot...

Download HDTune. HDTune can tell you the complete model number and benchmark results can also tell you what revision you have. (The single platter drive performs better)

I'd like to quote myself on my experiences with a GTX 260 from This thread . (second page) I'd also recommend that you read the whole thread. I'm nearly certain that the software that SPCR used to report fan speed reported incorrectly. Actual speeds were two times more than what was reported. My fin...

Undervolting will reduce heat but your also reducing the speed of the processor . What? :? How does reducing the voltage reduce the speed of the processor? @ Kate. Please resize that picture. Adding the resistor should work, provided that you choose the correct wire. Generally speaking, most fan controllers base the fan voltage on temperature. So the more voltage is given to the fan when the temperature increases to a certain point. They don't have target rpm's. Let's say the fan on your...

looking at the temp. spread, i'd say - re-apply the compound. <snip> either way, before fastening the sink, grind it a bit to let the compound spread and thin out. I agree. Sounds like poor contact. Just to elaborate on what mcoleg said, "grind" (to me) means to add some extra pressure to the heats...

I think he meant VLC. AFAIK, you have to use non-free software in order to get Blu-Ray on a PC. Also, I'm pretty sure Blu-Ray doesn't work in Linux yet.
But you can get a Blu-Ray drive for under $100. I'm definitely interested in getting one and hopefully the price will drop even more.

The E8400 is a good choice for a CPU. You can get it to ~3.6GHz with no extra voltage, and it does ~4GHz at ~1.3v. That's pretty reasonable, if you ask me. As for a motherboard, I would pick Intel's P45 chipset. It is modern, feature filled, and overclocks very nicely. As for a motherboard, I would ...

Help Me Get My 4830's Folding!
Ok, I now have two 4830's ready to add to my folding effort. So, I've been reading Stanford's site , and I'm confused about how to run two simultaneous clients. Ideally, I'd like to run two GPU Console clients . However, the link above talks of pointing a shortcut to two different directories, but I...

As, tehfire said, the NeoHE 430W is plenty for your needs. The noise should be manageable. According to SPCR's review the NeoHE 430W stays at 21dBA until somewhere between 150 and 200W. At that point, noise goes up to noticeable 26dBA. A 65nm 9800GTX+ draws 115W at load . (A 55nm version draws ~30W ...

I think none of the fans will be quiet. I have the PowerColor version and I don't think its too quiet. It's not terrible at stock settings, but if you have a really quiet system (ie near silent) the card will be loud. For an average user though, it might be ok. I'd recommend putting an S1 and a quie...

You're talking about the little white thing on the end of the PCI-E slot right? If so, I don't think it's necessary. It's only purpose is to ensure that a seated card stays seated. If you're absolutely certain it's seated, than you should be fine without it. The screw on the PCI cover gives it the m...

How about a low power, passive, dual dvi graphics card? My recommendation is the Asus 3450 which will suit your needs well. The other choices I linked to will be more powerful, probably too powerful for your needs.
