Re: Quiet PC build in the works opinions/comments

I currently have about 2200 put aside. Been slowly saving money for a while by keeping this same old crusty nehalem system since it was first released. Planning for next system to last a good decade.

Quiet PC build in the works opinions/comments

Will finally be upgrading from Nehalem. Some items are placeholders until kaby lake, optane 3d xpoint and finfet gpu's are released next year so please keep that in mind. Just getting an idea where I will be headed. Case: Fractal Design R5 Black Window - $120 Mobo: Asus RoG Maximus VIII Hero (replac...

I would go withe the noctua nh-u14s. Gonna have 140mm everywhere else might as well on the cpu too. You can really lower the speed a lot and have silent operation.

Re: My next [quiet] pc build let me know what you think

Well Guys I pulled the trigger on a MSI Gaming GTX 770 for 312.99 on ebay (pretty good deal). I decided to save the extra money towards a NAS and besides next year when we get the 20nm node jump that will be the time to splurge on the top end so why bother spending the extra money now when it will b...

Re: Windows 8.1 Discussion

Popular gaming streamer kripparrian just bought a brand new laptop with windows 8.1. He plays a more indie game called path of exile. The game constantly locks up and freezes the computer which never happened before this. He says it is a problem with windows 8.1 and nvidia optimus drivers not workin...

the base model of the macbook air is actually fairly priced. It's the upgrades apple rapes you on. If you can live with the base model it's competitively priced and a great machine. If you want more ram a better cpu more ssd you do get ripped off badly.

Anyone going to buy a 144hz Asus monitor with Gsync chip

After seeing that demonstration of gsync and how the monitor changes its refresh rate in real time to match the FPS of your card eliminating the final problem with graphic display the screen tearing I was sold. It does suck that the only monitor that supports it is a TN monitor but its supposedly on...

I was going to recommend going with an asus monitor with the new gsync chip added to it. It is a game changer in how gaming is done and I can't wait to try it out. Asus has exclusivity rights on gsync for the first year.

Re: Panasonic stopping all Plasma TV production

true, should probably test it out first. Could still sell it as brand new you can check the panel usage hours in the service menu to prove it's new. Might just sell the v10 and start using the 65 incher anyways. I kinda want to step up the size anyways. I didn't really want to buy a tv now but panas...

im leaning ps4 but of course i once owned a dream cast and turbographix 16 and sega master system and vextrex so that shows how i pick the dreamcast was awesome. Ahead of it's time. Re: Better long-term investment PS4 or XB1?

I think it's a fairly easy choice. If you are buying a console with the primary focus being you want the best gaming experience the PS4 is the way to go. 50% more Graphics silicon 18 cu vs 12 cu, 8GB GDDR5 memory on the ps4 vs 8GB DDR3 memory on xb1 yes the xbox has 32MB of SRAM that supposedly make...

According to the Ars Technica review the model s is louder than similarly priced luxury sedans at highway speeds. The noise from the wind and tires on the road were very loud. The model s has very poor acoustic insulation. Even with a gas engine the 60-80k cost mercedes and lexus and bmw do a much b...

The gaming edition R9 270X fits in the Antec Solo if anyone is interested. There's roughly a 2-3mm gap from then end of the card to drive cage. The defeault 18% fan speed under windows is very quiet and only gets louder between 25-30% with the side case open. Wth the case closed the heat built up (...

Re: MSI 270x HAWK - a silent gpu for gamers

If your budget will allow I think you will be happier with the MSI Twin Frozr IV GTX 670. It is 270 instead of 230 for the MSI Hawk r9 270x but you also get assassins creed black flag and splinter cell blacklist with the gtx 670. If you look at it this way, MSI hawk r9 270x (230) + Assassins creed b...

You really got to ask yourself, what does windows 8.1 really bring to the table that is so much better than windows 7? Does it bring enough enhancements to warrant all the hassles that come along with it? The only potential I see in Windows 8.1 is the exclusive access to directx 11.2. But I'm not ev...

Got to test out my 512GB Samsung 840 pro in my buddys PC. It's definitely the fastest SSD I have ever used. He has the 750GB samsung 840 EVO in his PC. Both SSD's were connected to a native chipset sata 3 connector not one of the extras provided by a controller as those seem to vary in speed more. E...

the only way to silence a hard drive is to either connect it to a USB port on your router that is in another room or use a nas that is in another room. Thats why I gave up putting a HDD inside my system and went with a SSD only inside.

I spent $69 on the Windows 8 Pro upgrade right when it came out. I also upgraded my girlfriends laptop for $14.99.
