Re: Recommendation for 500-600W PSU

I'm somewhat less familiar with SeaSonic (so please excuse if this is a dumb question): is the only difference between the S12II-520W and the M12II-520W the fact that the later is modular cabling and the former is not, or are the electronics and fan different as well?

Whats good in the current Antec lineup?

I've had one of the original EA430s for the past 5 years an although not categorically quiet, it has been sufficient for me these many years. I'm doing a new build and started with an EA650 Platinum...and was immediately disappointed with what I heard. The fan has a notable growl/chatter that single...

XFX 8600GT have fan control?

I've an opportunity to get one of these at a deep discount but I notice in photos it does NOT have the reference cooler. I dont mind them going with a different fan, but it concerns me that it doesnt even use the same 4pin connector as the reference so I'd guess there is no speed control and its pro...

Also, either way can you control the fan speed through the NVidia control panel?

160GB SATA : SG vs WD

I have limited options. I can either take a SeaGate 7200.10 or order in a WD 1600AAJS. They both have just one platter so I thought it would be odd/even as to which one would be quieter but I'm reading horror stories here about the 7200.10s. Would the WD be any quieter? Does it support AAM (which I ...

Which 7600GS/GT works with RivaTuner?

For many years I used RivaTuner with great success to manually control the stock fan on my 6800. "25%" speed for 2D mode was, for my purpose at least, more than quiet enough. I'm putting together a new PC and discovered this doesnt always work. I tried an XFX 7600GT (PV-T73G-UGD3) which seems to be ...

I have an older APC UPS, model BE350C. I measured it once a while back and if memory serves, it uses about 6 watts, definetly less than 10, when its on but nothing is plugged into it.

A4 Neo HEs were released at the beginning of the year. You should be safe with anything past January 2006 (S0601...) IIRC. "Safe" is a little relative since the so called incompatibilities apparently persist: Just tried a brand new S06080xxxx on an Intel brand P965LT mainboard and got the same old ...

@BrianF: Yes, that's why we started testing with no load. I'm not sure the test is foolproof, since some Neo HEs still seem to be having problems, but at least it looks at a potential source of problems. So do the early NEOs "fail" this test? Understood that the test is not foolproof but if the ear...

The Earth Watts had no issues starting or staying on with no load applied.
Does this relate directly to the now famous issue the NEO HE's had/have with regards to min loads?

Thats just the "opperating environment" (the temp range they can be used in). I was refering to the spec'ing of the units output: Virtually all PSUs, including all of Antec's (except the NEO HEs) are quoted as delivering their rated output at 25deg (with a MTBF of 80,000 hours at that temp). These n...

How is this different from the Neo HE, I wonder?
Going by what is on their site, two 12V rails instead of three, 3 year warranty instead of 5, no detacheable cables. Probably rated to 25deg like all their other stuff (the NeoHEs are the only one rated to 50deg).

It looks to have the same overall structure as the 3000 series but with a new bezel and a subordinate version of the HE430 power supply (perhaps only 2 rails instead of 3?). Panaflow vs. Antec TriCool

Please forgive if this has allready been hashed out but.....

I'm just wondering if a FBA12G12L1A at 5V would be any better than the 12cm Antec "TriCool" thats coming in all their cases (set to "L" of course).

Normally I'd steer clear of PSUs with bottom intake, but from testimonies I'm reading, the S12s dont seem to fall prey to the usual scenario of "CPU heat goes in, speeds up fan, PSU gets loud". Is the new SeaSonic SS400 ~really~ ATX2.0?

I dont think it has 2 12V rails. Looking at the side panel of the latest edition, there is no 12V2 rating (like there is on the new S12s), and looking at the specs acording the NewEgg, it does not have dual 12V rails. According to formfactors.org, if 12V is higher than 18A (in the case of the SS400,...

On its "low" setting, I find the included fan sufficiently quiet. So maybe its not the quietest in the world, but its definetly not a throw away. In fact, once I installed rubber mounts for it, it fell completly below the level of the other components.

Frank, looking at the second photo you posted, one gets the impression there is enough room there for them to have use 80x25mm intake fan (looks like there is a gap between the 80x15 and the circuit board/heatsink).

True, or is the angle of the photo deceiving?
