Re: Undervolting 4450E + 780G, power usage results
Is there an option to set your own memory divisor in the BIOS? (e.g. turning off memory timings "By SPD") If there is I don't see it. There's a memory controller freq setting that is only present with certain CPUs. For mine, it's not available, so I don't know what it does. I was thinking since tha...

E6750 vs E8400 power consumption comparison
I just swapped out a modestly over-clocked E6750 (3.0 GHz 375x8, 1.325V) for an E8400 clocked the same (3.0 GHz 375x8, 1.05V). Lower voltage, same clock (note non-standard), but no idle power savings. Processor load power dropped 21W, though. I also did some graphics tests and found 12-14W improveme...

Is it possible to move the installation over to a flashdisk? You see I spent two weeks removing crapware and getting a usable setup on the hdd. I've not tried it, but I don't see why something like Micronis Migrate Easy wouldn't work. That's what I use to transition to new hard drives every time I ...

I found out the hard way, that there's a setting in my BIOS for determining "HD drive" priority for booting. This is separate from the normal "Boot device priority" setting and the thing gets reset to default if you disconnect your boot drive or forget to connect the power cable. So, I thought I wa...

I have an Addonics SATA CF adapter. I've installed both Ubuntu Linux and WinXP to 133x cards and found that Linux runs much better from these things. It took hours to install Windows and hours to install the motherboard drivers and utilities. Probably six hours to do those two installs, and I haven'...

Thanks, Plekto. That does seem to be what's happening. My objective was to have one IDE compact flash adapter (plugged into the MB) with the system drive and a SATA compact flash adapter in a PCI slot. I thought I'd install the OS with an IDE CDROM so I wouldn't have to pull the SATA drive from my m...

Not sure what I did but I got this to boot, then plugged in the compact flash card (now SATA), and I installed Ubuntu on a compact flash card and can now boot from that reliably. I'm afraid to touch the boot order. I'll worry about that next time I need to boot from CDROM. I'd also like to move the ...

The boot order isn't working. This board will attempt to boot from *anything but* my CD-ROM, even with the following boot order specified in BIOS: First Boot Device [CDROM] Second Boot Device [Disabled] Third Boot Device [Disabled] I have an Ubuntu Live-CD in the CD-ROM drive. If I have no other boo...

Setting boot order is apparently not enough. I removed everything but the CD-ROM from the boot order and now it gets further. It gets to "verifying dmi pool data" and hangs. The compact flash card is recognized as "TRANSCEND" as Master, but of course it has no operating system on it yet. That's why ...

It boots with a SATA CD-ROM. Bad IDE controller? I ran the memory test that's on the Ubuntu disc and that seems to be okay. Ubuntu also runs. I'll try installing it when I get my compact flash IDE adapter, but that's going to require that IDE controller to work. Order status says man in brown unifor...

Why would you need a page file with 4 GB of RAM? I've turned it off with only 2 GB in the system. It doesn't seem to cause any trouble. I should try that. No boot device, should it do this?
I put a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H in a case, put in an Athlon 4450E and 2 sticks of RAM, and hooked up everything I could except a boot device, which I don't have yet. I just wanted to see if I could get BIOS up. Here's what happens... When I power on the system the system fan spins up (there is no CPU...

picoPSU - bracket to attach?
Somewhere I've seen a PCI slot bracket to attach the jack for the picoPSU, but I can't find it now. It's just a PCI slot thingy with a hole in it. Anyone know where I might find one?

Is the 1300 / 1380 really that bad for noise and other? When I first started this crusade I though it was perfect. I don't know that it is bad at all, but I do know the power supply is located such that I likely can't use a fanless CPU cooler, so I'm planning to have to remove it. I chose the case,...

Your requirements are almost exactly like mine. I fretted over this for a week and concluded there were no good solutions. In fact, I got so tired of going back and forth that I wrote up a table of deficiencies in every possibility, to make them easier to compare. Here it is... eee pc (seems to run ...
