I got the same PSU , except mine had the mechanical noise so it's RMAed... Anyway , most motherboards don't even really measure the -12V voltage , they "guess". That's because modern motherboards don't use the -12V line at all. So I wouldn't worry. As for it overheating , I had the same problem , it...

Memory timings don't affect motherboard stability. Actually it's the memory voltage that is holding me back. With the 3V that this motherboard can give I can get the memory to run at 223 , 2-2-2-11 timings 239 , 2.5-3-3-11 timings Always with dual channel , interface enabled , everything set up for ...

@fabre , there should be an option in the bios that will allow you to change the fsb in 1mhz increments. Something like "system performance" or something , all nforce2 motherboards have something like that. Yeah , the NF7-S supports 10x and 10.5x , but they din't work properly , until I flashed a ti...

Raptors are very loud and very expensive , really unsuitable for your use. I took another look and you say that this will be a gaming rig (amongst other things). What kind of vga will you be using? Cause putting some extra money towards getting a high-end vga will be much better than buying expensiv...

Keep in mind that the 10x and 10.5x multipliers don't work very well on most nforce2 motherboards. In fact , some motherboards don't even have them in the bios. Also cas3 can mess with most nforce2 mobos (mine doesn't even boot with cas3). @fabre , try a small multiplier (like 9x) to find the maximu...

Almost forgot (4 hours of C++ coding can mess with my head). I also have a second PC with a mobile 2500+. This one @ 2380 , 1.8V. Cooling is SLK900U+Panaflo M1A , in a compucase 6A19 (fully modded) with 2x120mm Papst 4412FGL and an Antec true480. With all fans @ 12V , it gets ~30°C over ambient @ lo...

It produces ~35% more heat than your current cpu , for a total of >110Watts.... I got a pretty good wa...

Seems kind of irrelevant to F@H , but here goes. F@H barely uses memory. That means that high fsb and tight timings have near zero effect on its performance. It also means that it can't reveal any memory instability. As for the difference in performance. If it's just for the timings , then it's not ...

Very nice work. I've been thinking about going external with a radbox too. Just a couple of suggestions. With the "shroud" you are using , you are only using half of the radiators surface. With a properly made one , using the entire surface , you'd be able to pass some serious air through the rad , ...

I already wrote about that , the mobile 2500+ cpus actually have 2 default multis 6 & 14. These two , if considered in binary form , differ only in the msb (the 5th bit that most mobos can't touch) , so in a laptop the cpu can work in 2 different frequencies 14x133 (at load) or 6x133 (at idle) , in ...

Just a reminder , the cpu is (almost) completely irelevant when it comes to the fsb you will reach. If your cpu (or cooling) don't allow you a high cpu frequency , just lower the multiplier and work with the highest fsb your mobo/memory will allow (typically 220 - 230). Even 8x230=1840 will be a HUG...

As far as mobos go , I'd prefer the NF7 or NF7-S. It has all the options , including a full range of multis (unlike 99% of mobos) and proper memory voltage (2.9V overvolts to 3V). With tictac modded bios and proper NB cooling it will get 235+ fsb (as long as your memory can handle it). The verdict o...

@trodas The cpu's multiplier is a 5bit number , however most motherboards can only change 4bits , leaving the msb (most significant bit) unchanged. That means that if your cpu has a multi up to (and including) 12.5x , you can't go over 12.5x or if the cpu has a multi over 13x , you can't go below 13...

Auto detection of mobile bartons isn't as simple as it sounds. You see , being a mobile cpu , it actually has 2 multis (6 & 14) and 2 voltages (1.45 & 1.57) to choose from when running in a laptop. Your motherboard could choose either of each. My Abit detects 6 multi , 1.57V , others detect 14 multi...

Being part of the overclocking crowd , I can explain some things about their attitude. First of all , PSU characteristics (like rated amperage and wattage) , give you the limits of where the PSU will reach the rated line tolerance (usually 5%). Being an overclocker (die hard , too) a 5% variance in ...

It really depends on your goals. Running a fully internal setup will require using a small radiator (unless if you have a huge full tower case) , something in size for 1x120mm fan. I'm an overclocker and I visit OC.com and OCforums and I just can't see any similarities between their notion of silence and the SPRC one. All PSUs are inaudible when you have half a dozen of high-powered case fans. And 2k rpm on a 14cm fan? I find the Papst 4412FGL (12cm) clearly audible at anything over 1k rpm. Me thinks it will sound like a hurricane. Really the last site you should look for silencing advice is OC.com. Unless you th...

The gurgling noises you hear are probably air bubbles entering the pump. Depending on your setup it can take a long time for those to bleed. In my system bleeding takes ~3days (but I use a T-line instead of a Res). A couple of things to check : Touch the radiator , does it feel hot? If it does , the...

I have the same opinion as tay. It also explains why you need increased voltage when overclocking past a certain point (since you need a more clearly defined "high" logic level). In my experience doing the opposite thing (overvolting) using the same cpu in different motherboards , they all almost pe...

Thanks for your reply. Balancing between speed and silence is indeed hard. I can still remember the howling 5000rpm cpu fan I used 2 months ago... Quiet PSU for aggresive overclocking?
I guess this is a pretty weird question , by SPRC standards. As the title says , I'm an overclocker and I got tired of all the noise. I've moved to watercooling to take care of most of the noise , yet now my true480 creates 9/10 of my rigs noise. My rig consists of the following 2500+ @ 11x218 = 240...
