The reason I think this was a universally valid test is the degree of dampening. This is one factor, but the other can also vary. If a case is less 'convection cooled' (in proportion), this may change the outcome. I happen to own an infra-red non-contact digital thermometer. Going over the outer al...

Well, I usually don't agree with 'all experience are ok - everyboy's right', especially when (semi-)scientific, or at least rationnal things. In this case, the question is quite clear and the supposition made by bluefront (as I understood it, pls correct) should be something like : In a well ventila...

Ok, found it back ... it was on a PC which is part of our lab, @work, which is used to make some experiments from time to time. today, I've now re-installed a few of the pc and, looked at running processes before doing so, to find that FAHCore was still running on one of them. But I'm still worried ...

As to reply to well-named kostik, yes ... (and I found it back, btw - got to post on the other topic) In fact, another way to achieve not a silent PC but a silent computer working place is to put the main tower far away from the display, keyboard and mouse you're using. Apart from network-based solu...

I'm going slightly off toooppic ... ((c) Queen) ;) btw it's a Dell. Dell doesn't make HDD. Most of dell laptops' drives are Hitachi (IBM). But you just went on a slippery slope ... I can say exactly the same of IDE drives against SCSI drives. to fix things up : Fujitsu laptop : 300 kh 'cuda IV : 600...

Where's that *%&£! PC ?
Ok, so I folded a lot some time ago, with a few computers (mainly my workstations). The result were quite nice, about 1600 WU, 25k points. Since them, many reinstall, not so much interest and I stopped. Now, I'm re-installing folding client here and there and went back to the stats page to see that ...

Short : Yes.
Long : You may want to have a look at Rusty's in desk PC.
For me, it didn't worked good because the zalman flower is perpendicular to the fan exhaust, so I reached 70-80°C that way on an XP1800+.
Otherwise I could use a 120mm-fan PSU, but I have a normal nexus so it won't work ...

Ok, found back the software, it's EZ-SCSI, there's one SCSI Device Power Management tool dedicated to this task (also set up spin down time on each device)
Provided with (some ?) adaptec adapters, compatoble with SymLogic ones.

Matrox G*, put also G400(Max), better 3d perf than G450 or G550 (IIRC) - really good for HTPC (dual framebuffer use) I have one, I agree, but it is no longer available. I don't think discontinued products should be on the list. I modded mine with a Zalman NB HS. Wroks well, no fan. The orig had a t...

External casing for IDE HDD ?
I was wondering about using external firewire/USB cases, eventually boxed for my HTPC ... In fact, I'm now searching for a (as cheap as possible) interface between firewire and 2 or 4 IDE HDD. If you have any address where that can be available to me. Any other opinions on that idea are warmly welco...

One thing I think THG got right is the pride that the average worker takes in his/her job and what they are helping produce. That's something I've seen in SE Asia many times (I lived there for 4 years), which is somewhat lacking with your typical worker here in the UK, and it shows. Well, that real...

Black (color) != Black (thermal)
IIRC my lectures (3-4+ years ago), The use of 'black' for thermal properties is just an image of the 'black' colors, in terms of radiating/absorbing capabilities and isn't meant to be taken in the same way. Less sure, but, I think there may be != type of painting and that you have special (appropria...

update on BaconTastestGood (ummmh, haven't took yet my breakfast this morning) : - it's matrox P 650 and not G650. - Add Matrox G200, G400, G400Max (basically Matrox G*) As a declared matrox fan, I just have to state that your classification sucks ;) For example, the G400 are available for cheap on ...
