As much as I despise Winfox for being one of those nasty programs supplied with computer components which fails to stick to any interface guidlines, has annoying noises and likes sitting in the taskbar for no reason whatsoever, it has a built in BIOS flashing program which I us...

It looks like the same layout as a G92 card so it should do. Passive may not be enough with that card so the turbo module or a slow 120mm fan would help.

Still, if I'm getting 65C passive, yours should be a fair bit cooler with a fan nearby. Having looked back through, actually mine wasn't doing 74C. That was someone elses 8800GT I was comparing it too. The highest mine has gone looking back through Speedfan logs was 68C and that was looping Crysis ...

I have an S2 on a 9600GT with a slow spinning fan pointing at it which idles at ~36C but load temp (measured with Speedfan during gameplay) is >60C, highest I've seen was 74C. i ordered an Accelero S1 which will h...

Converting HF PWM to DC is easy enough in hardware, simplest way uses a small capacitor and the fan's inductance as an LC filter, going up-market an op-amp integrator to give digital (or rather, mark:space ratio) -to-analogue conversion and a transistor to boost the current. I had considered buildi...

It arrived today and I'm now using it. Takes some time to get it as they're built to order. I've got it hooked up to the CPU fan header on the mobo with a 120mm Akasa fan (18dB@1400rpm). The variable resistor allows me to select the minimum PWM speed up to 950rpm. 300rpm is the lowest I can get a RP...

S1 + 2x120 fans running slowly should be enough. Assuming it's about 50% higher power than an 8800GT that would seem plenty.

Shuttle's have had this for years, the obvious reason why they can is because they're in control of motherboard, case and cooler. With standard cases this would be a problem because not every system has it's CPU in the same place. Still, you could mod a case to have this. Pop the motherboard in with...

Was the 9600GT stock cooler quieter than the old NV5 you had? The NV5 could actually be used on a 9600GT and would improve cooling, you'd just need to power the fan somehow.

I use it under Windows and would agree. Some of the criticism of ClearType is not about sub pixel rendering in general. I much prefer the font rendering in KDE which looks so much smoother.

You got fed up with which noise - the at-boot 100%, or the normal idle fan speed? The 100% at boot is what is annoying. It's bad engineering which annoys me, not just the noise the thing makes while doing it. The idle noise was still audible over the rest of my system. Also, can you characterize yo...

It's not the 16dB they claim but it's much quieter than the stock 8800GT cooler (the revised one) he previously had even when that was running at 35%. You could put an A...

Vantec Iceberq doesn't expel heat out of the back of the case. If you want to do that, get an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer (not sure which one if any will fit a 3850) or a Thermaltake AT1.

Are these the same fans used in the Enermax Pro82+ and Modu82+ PSU's? The 120mm with a top speed of 1000rpm matches the top speed of the fan in my Modu82+, though I can't verify that as I've never seen it break 480rpm.

If they are the same fans, then they will be very quiet.

The 100% fan at boot issue is because whoever wrote the BIOS was seemingly working their notice. It just doesn't make sense to run at 100% when you're not running anything in hardware. It would be possible to mod the BIOS to boot at a more sensible fan speed. I got fed up with the noise within a day...

For anyone interested, you'll need nvflash 5.63 or later for 9600GT cards. I've not yet got a bootable USB DOS pendrive to work from but am getting there. I'm first going to try without extending down the voltage table, just choosing the lowest voltage in the supplied table for 2D (1V).

I would go for the approach of fan modding your existing AT PSU. It seems like many PSU's just get thrown away as the fan wears out which is a waste, I've done it before but wouldn't do now, it's just all of the over the top warnings you see on them about danger of death that stop most people from t...

My Leadtek 9600GT has no audible whines or buzzes. With the Accelero S2 that I fitted to it it's inaudible.

I can see it being different samples or brands. They do have some different power circuitry.

Have you tried listening in different temperature conditions? It might vary.

It seems to me that nVidia thinks that the power consumption of the 9600GT is low enough already, and that there's no need bothering with several clockspeeds and voltages. It's like with the 7900 series - 7900GTX was a hot card with different voltages in 2D and 3D, later came the 7950GT which didn'...

No multiple clock/voltage modes on modern nVIDIA cards

I've recently got a 9600GT and am disappointed to find that it runs the same 650MHz core at 1.1V all of the time. This seems like a step backwards for me from earlier cards which used separate 2D, 3D (and throttle) clockspeeds and voltages. I can obviously introduce separate 2D, 3D and throttle mode...

Glaringly absent is what happens to the fan's RPM monitoring. You're gonna lose it. Mobos with fan control on 3-pin headers have the bios advance the fan voltage to 100% periodically so the "tach" (RPM) signal can be maintained. That's software in the bios. This controller gadget is pure hardware -...

In my experience the 9600GT cooler is very loud, not helped by it running at 100% from boot. This could be fixed in NiBiTor. You'd be so much better off replacing the heatsink and fan that I don't think an RPM heading of the standard cooler really matters or not. I've replaced it with an Accelero S2...

PWM to 3-pin adaptor

I've just built a Silverstone SG-03B with a P5E-VM HDMI motherboard and have a set of Akasa 120mm 18dB fans hooked up to the mobo. The one attached to the CPU header can not be controlled by the mobo as this header only controls 4-pin PWM fans. It seems obvious to me that you could convert from PWM ...
