As Samsung has been so slovenly in releasing its single platter 320Gb drive, I may go for this WD3200AAKS-00B3A0 if I can find one available in the UK. This will be for a games drive, as I will format my current games drive (a 74Gb 8Mb Raptor) to be the OS drive (currently a slow 80Gb Maxtor). I thi...

The 90nm 5200+EE is pretty rare these days; if you stumble upon one pick it up! It is probably worth a small price premium over the 5000+BE due to the extra cache. Odds are that they will reach the same speeds if they are late steppings, but the extra cache on the 5200+ will give better performance....

I have just ditched my x1950xtx for a 3870 and have also ordered a S1 so I can crank up the core speed on the card. The stock cooler is far too noisy and is too small to keep temperatures down when at >850Mhz. I have flashed the card's BIOS to one that sets the stock clocks to 830Mhz/1200Mhz and ope...

I'd keep the 3000B. I've owned both it and the Solo, and the 3000B is a great case. Although it doesn't look as nice as the Solo, it is extremely competitive in silence terms and probably has superior cooling potential. I blocked the upper vent on the side panel and filtered the lower one, which gav...

I have quite a similar set up! The Solo really is a good case to make a quiet computer with. The only problem I have with mine is that the rear of the case is backed up against a wall (~6" or so), and the wall reflects the sound of the computer back towards me. It's amazing how this can amplify the ...

The temp sensor in the Brisbane CPUs is broken so it's hard to get an accurate picture of what the temperature is. Coretemp doesn't work. It's really down to the motherboard manufacturer to create a bios that will calibrate the temp sensor on the motherboard for the CPU correctly. My abit board did ...

The serrations at the rear of the fan blades are likely to be vortex generators. You can often see these on F1 cars, where they are known as Gurney Flaps. Their primary purpose is to reduce drag so the design could be good for low noise operation. However, how much time this fan has spent in a wind ...

Hi Puffi, have you thought about getting our FP33 fan controller? It will allow you to easily control three FM121 fans manually: http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-fp33.htm The FP33 is a great product! It's good quality and good looking. I chose it over the ugly Akasa fan controller to control ...

If I were buying a new set of 2.1 speakers for my computer, I'd get some from the same manufacturer of my hi-fi speakers, Acoustic Energy. I'd put money on these being the best in their price range:
