If im going to spend 10 times as much on an SSD compared to a normal HDD its got to be at least as fast. Having it half the speed, a quarter of the capacity and 10 times the cost is NOT worth it just to cut down on noise and heat IMO.

You dont plan to OC, then that board is massively, hugely, enormously overkill. Any P45 will be able to run passively with everything at stock. Even in a low airflow environment. This is my board: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/pimg/MB-280-AS_400.jpg With a very low airflow, my northbridge does not g...

Why the very expensive motherboard? You can get a much cheaper P45 and not miss out on any performance or useful features. I wouldnt go for the 4850 in crossfire, its hard to cool both quietly and uses alot of power even in idle. If you think you'll need the extra power, get a single 4870 (1GB versi...

How does one work out what speed fan will be sufficient? (The case in question has a 120mm intake and a 120mm exhaust fan) And I'm in Melbourne, Australia - so yes we do get rather hot summers.. Theres no real way to "work out" what fan you will need, but you can get a pretty good idea. The CPU and...

The only temp HWmonitor shows is labelled "TMPIN0" at 29c (+6 above ambient). since my CPU is a single core, i cant easily guess if its the northbridge or CPU that its reading. Ran Orthos (CPU stress test) and tmpin0 did go up but not by a huge amount (only +5c after 10 minutes, stabilising at 34c a...

Thermalright HR-01 Plus pwns the Ninja. 3-4c difference between the 2 isnt exactly pwnage. Its an improvement, but both Heatsinks are able to cool a quad core passively, what more do you need? The Ninja isnt class-leading, but its still a very impressive performer and a good choice for any SPCR'er.

IMO they aren't worth the extra money unless you are putting it in a small case with much lower airflow than usual, although then you'd likely be stuck using the stock cooler due to height restrictions, and from a silencer POV that wont be ideal. If they were just $10-20 more than the usual version ...

CPU temp monitoring for Sempron LE-1640?

Yep if it uses more than about 10-15w then it has to have some airflow, convection wont be enough.
So while you can buy passive PSU's and stick them in a quiet case, you would still want at least 1 low-rpm fan in there.

A) The modu82+ is a good choice, although you'll still need lots of adaptors to power those HDD's since i dont know of any realistically priced PSU that comes with 10+ SATA power cables. B) My file server uses an AMD LE-1640. Its a single core at something like 2.2ghz. Works fine, and i actually hav...

They are a very good choice for anyone with an existing LGA775 board that supports quads, or anyone who objects to paying twice as much for a new board and 4 times as much for RAM.

An Intel E7x00 or E8x00 series chip will handle multitasking just fine, unless your planning on doing large amounts of video encoding you wont see much/any benefit of going quad, especially if your only using it as a media PC/light usage tasks. Its up to you, but you can save some money. Also the la...

Then yes, anything more than a 4850 is wasted. I use the 4850 and the same res and while some games (GTAIV, probably crysis) need the settings lowered, they still look fantastic andplay at smooth rates.

What res will you be gaming at? You say no really demanding games. A 4850 can handle WoW at very high resolutions. Unless you have a 30" screen anything more than the 4850/9800GTX+ probably wont be that beneficial to you. For the motherboards, id go for the cheapest. They are all more than capable, ...

With just one of those slipstream fans on the exhuast, you should be able to take out the rest and have the CPU passive as well. Anything over 60 on consumer CPU's is bad, although shouldnt effect the lifespan of the CPU much. Over 70c and your probably going to start getting stability issues and shortened life.

Personally i aim for below 55c under real world load (in my case video encoding).
