You dont plan to OC, then that board is massively, hugely, enormously overkill. Any P45 will be able to run passively with everything at stock. Even in a low airflow environment. This is my board: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/pimg/MB-280-AS_400.jpg With a very low airflow, my northbridge does not g...

Why the very expensive motherboard? You can get a much cheaper P45 and not miss out on any performance or useful features. I wouldnt go for the 4850 in crossfire, its hard to cool both quietly and uses alot of power even in idle. If you think you'll need the extra power, get a single 4870 (1GB versi...

An improvement, but not good enough to regain its title of best drive maker around (it sure seems a while since it had that badge as well). 2TB Greenpowers should be shipping in the coming few weeks accoridng to most sites which will eliminate the biggest selling point for this drive (highest capaci...

How does one work out what speed fan will be sufficient? (The case in question has a 120mm intake and a 120mm exhaust fan) And I'm in Melbourne, Australia - so yes we do get rather hot summers.. Theres no real way to "work out" what fan you will need, but you can get a pretty good idea. The CPU and...

The only temp HWmonitor shows is labelled "TMPIN0" at 29c (+6 above ambient). since my CPU is a single core, i cant easily guess if its the northbridge or CPU that its reading. Ran Orthos (CPU stress test) and tmpin0 did go up but not by a huge amount (only +5c after 10 minutes, stabilising at 34c a...

IMO they aren't worth the extra money unless you are putting it in a small case with much lower airflow than usual, although then you'd likely be stuck using the stock cooler due to height restrictions, and from a silencer POV that wont be ideal. If they were just $10-20 more than the usual version ...

CPU temp monitoring for Sempron LE-1640?
Having recently built a file server using cheap/low power parts i finally seem to have got my motherboard behaving nicely (it was resetting the BIOS every time i turned the power off) and use windows remote connection to fiddle about with it from my main PC. But there seems to be an issue with readi...

A) The modu82+ is a good choice, although you'll still need lots of adaptors to power those HDD's since i dont know of any realistically priced PSU that comes with 10+ SATA power cables. B) My file server uses an AMD LE-1640. Its a single core at something like 2.2ghz. Works fine, and i actually hav...

Multi-GPU cards are still far too niche for heatsink makers to work on one (doesnt help that they all have different mounting/positioning), so your basically stuck with stock cooling or expensive waterblocks and all the hassle that goes with that. Unless your experienced in modding computer parts at...

Re: Advice on new PC build
They are a very good choice for anyone with an existing LGA775 board that supports quads, or anyone who objects to paying twice as much for a new board and 4 times as much for RAM.QuietOC wrote:The Core 2 Quads aren't a good choice for anyone now that the Corei7 is out.

An Intel E7x00 or E8x00 series chip will handle multitasking just fine, unless your planning on doing large amounts of video encoding you wont see much/any benefit of going quad, especially if your only using it as a media PC/light usage tasks. Its up to you, but you can save some money. Also the la...

Do the cheap CF to IDE adapters suffer from stuttering issues? What res will you be gaming at? You say no really demanding games. A 4850 can handle WoW at very high resolutions. Unless you have a 30" screen anything more than the 4850/9800GTX+ probably wont be that beneficial to you. For the motherboards, id go for the cheapest. They are all more than capable, ...

I have a reference 4850 with S1. 500rpm slipstream is enough to keep the VRM's cool without heatsinks. In GTA4 i can play at native res (1680x1050) on medium settings. If thats a big enough jump from your old card for you to make the jump then go ahead. For RTS games any midranged card will do excel...
