Link? I've looked at the Ninjas mounting system and I figure with some nuts & bolts and a couple of washers I could mount the system I'm just not sure how good it would be and it would require destorying the pushpins of on the ninja. The other hassle would be getting some sort of brack to spread th...

I know this may sound stupid, but get an el-cheapo power supply and connect the fans directly to it.

This is something that I've been considering to make my own laptop cooler. Since I use my laptop on a desk, mobility is not a concern for me.

dragmor, I remember reading somewhere that someone have managed to put a backplate on top of the existing cooler plate that comes on the DQ6 by using some plastic spacers. That was an easy DIY. That way he was able put a tower HSF without removing the "Crazy Cool" plate. And he was more than happy w...

So, what you need is just the bolt thru kit itself. Oh, so you're saying the Thermalright bolt thru kit will work with my Scythe Infinity heatsink? Maybe I just read that wrong. Thanks for the link. Have a look at the link below. It's a quite long thread, but there are lots of explanatory photos th...

Most probably. But unfortunately, I can't explain the technical part, I have no idea (neither anyone else)

I see that you are using Desktop Toolbar in the Taskbar.

Disable it (by right-clicking on the Taskbar and unchecking Desktop in the Toolbar option in the context menu)

greenuk, The bolt thru kit is included in Ultra 120's package. No need to buy it extra, if you purchase the Ultra 120. But one can also purchase the bold thru kit separately. http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_product_accessories.htm#acc_lga775 So, what you need is just the bolt thru kit itself...

Umm, the Scythe heatsinks are regarded as one of the finest, when it comes to air-cooling.

The problem is not the heatsink itself, but rather the 'crappy' push pins. As it's been recommended by continuum, use bolts.

IIRC, the Thermalright LGA775 bolt thru kit should do the job perfectly.

It could be a very tight fit, since the specs on the official site says 160.5mm for height.

Thanks Willy. IBM does sound like the best fit for me. It's good to have a large active forum of knowledgeable users to see you through any rough patches. Laptops are rarely silent by design. Not enough space for effective cooling. However, you can run them silent by undervolting with 3rd party software like NHC or RMClock. I've been using RMClock since 2 years or so with very satisfying results. The fan never runs on my laptop. CPU temp is around 40...

Thinkpad X31 with 12.1" display. Since it has a smaller footprint, it is getting hotter (when not undervolted) than the laptops with 14-15" screens.

The tuniq Tower is probably one of the worst performers when it comes to low-airflow. I don't know if I'd consider a 1200rpm Scythe @ full speed to be "low-airflow." However, I think that the spacing requires more pressure out of a fan . Perhaps one of the turbine style fans would be more suitable ...
