System Not Booting...
Mods: Please move this if it's in the wrong section... :) Putting in my Gainward 7800GS AGP and Scythe into my system (suddenly realised socket A doesnt have the right mounting holes! Dammit, should have looked a bit closer). And now it wont start. When I press the power button the fans spin up and ...

You don't achieve a semnificative temperature drop only from changing clocks, voltage is more important. As a rule of thumb: temperature drop/increase liniar with changing clocks and ^2 with changing voltages. Maybe it's time to change the stock cooling with an Silencer, Zalman, VM-101 or something...

underclocking.. How low is still safe?
I was trying to run my 5600 fan less last night just used FanSpeed to turn the fan off), and was obviously getting hotter and I didn't want it buggering up during the nigt. So I started underclocking it using RivaTuner. The slider goes all the way down to 125mghz on the GPU clock and 300~ish I guess...

have you seen the gainward card? It's got a much bigger 2 slot cooler instead of that. So it'll run a quieter from the start. I don't think new egg have it though (I just did a quick search on there for 7800GS cards). The gainward comes with 512mb of RAM and a "7900GT or 7800GT" chip (which I guess ...

I guess you think that booting under 30 seconds is supposed to be really not really impressive, because I know the OS is a light weight 8mb something or other, just so it can fit on the card I think. Nice idea though. I wonder how Gigabit Ethernet would compare over the network. Would/do people ben...

Do you need greater than 800x600? The tuner card you're going to use won't be doing HDTV resolution anyway. As for the CF card for the OS--it will be slow, but I don't think that this will be a significant problem for your HTPC use. I'm not too sure about that... A friend of a friend run their HTPC...

I dunno, most people don't just have a spare multimeter lying around and they are fairly expensive pieces of equipment. Maybe he has one though so who knows.  I'll have to go home for mine though. Have 1 or 2 sitting around the house, and one in my dads work van. I'll have to wait 3 week...

I just wondered as I was looking at the readings from my onboard sensor yesterday, noticing that it was 11.4. I presume this is just about ok, but how low is bad? 11v? And are the onboard sensors all that accurate?
Cheers,
Dan

hmmm, at least my question made some sense  Looks like it's the wrong time to be buying any new CPUs for now... So I've gone ahead and bought a 7800GS agp for my current system to tide me over for a bit. At least this way, I might actualy be able to play HL2:Episode One which I just ordered. Di...

Non-Intel Conroe Motherboards?
I was trying to figure out earlier on which boards support the C2D chips, on the intel NB chip and a non-intel NB i.e. a nvidia chipset. After a bit of digging I came up with the Asus P5W DH Deluxe, but that's a crossfire motherboard, and looking around I'd rather get a 7900-something. ...I'm really...

tri-cool fan clicking and replacement nexus fans?
Hi everoyne,
did a quick search but it turned up nothing.
Does anyone else get ticking/clicking on their tri-cool fans?
And where is the best place to get nexus (or simularly quiet) fans from in the UK?
Thanks,
Dan

* Learn to use your left hand for your mouse sometimes (eg. browsing), to give your right hand a rest. I don't think that going to work very well with a mouse designed for a right hand, or if there's not much room to the left of the keyboard. So, again, the question is whether two mice, ie. a mouse...

Noiseblocker & Akasa 80mm Fans
I'm looking for something fairly quiet for the VGA duct on my p180 so I can try 'n turn the VGA fan off then (it's got a fairly good heat sink on both sides) Has anyone had any experiences with any of their 80mm fans? I've got a Akasa 80mm at the moment that's sort of quiet so would it be easier to ...

my brother has one of these, and they are laughably loud! It's is easily louder than 5 Akasa fans all running at 1800rpm, and an older Hyper 480w PSU running on "silent" mode (which is still crap). This was running in a smaller more vibration prone case (the door were never on proerply for a start) ...

Phantom 500w - high pitched noise
Hi, As some of you may remember I had some problems with my old PSU (a Hyper 450w), it would make a stupid ticking noise that became unbearable so I bught a p180 and a Phantom 500. Because I thought this combination would allow the Phantom's fan to stay off. The Problem: Yesterday I noticed a high p...
