Re: The 10 to 100 Million+ Points PLUS club, All are welcom

Hey, thanks! Sorry I've been so absent lately, I decided to set up a dual socket machine to keep going with bigadvs after the deadline. That caused me to shift around more than a few motherboards between cases, and it's taken me a while to get things back to something like normal. And while that was...

Re: [Advice needed]Wooden case build using the Silverstone R

No, the things I'm talking about are brass hasps like this: http://www.lowes.com/pd_311955-1277-890145_0__?productId=3355510&Ntt=brass+hasp&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dbrass%2Bhasp&facetInfo= And hey, the box can hold a full size ATX motherboard. I have an overclocked i7 980x in it with a No...

Re: [Advice needed]Wooden case build using the Silverstone R

I built myself a wooden case using the rotated orientation, but it was a full custom build, not using any existing case framework except for the motherboard tray. Here's the thread about it: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=61400 I haven't had any problems as far as resonanc...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

Yeah, that happens to me too, sometimes. Haven't really noticed it more than usual, I've been screwing with some computers, so it's natural to get failures when you do that. For general instability, I usually just crank down the overclock a notch and see if that helps. Usually does. If you're not ov...

Re: big brass box

Actually, the hanging drives are a lot more stable than they used to be. The used to just have wires going from the edge to the middle, and then some velcro at the back to hold them against the middle partition. The problem with that was, when the drives got hot, the veclro adhesive would fail and t...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

Yeah, there's a post from Dr. Pande: http://folding.typepad.com/news/2011/12/update-on-outage-fah-has-been-up-as-of-sunday-stats-back-on-line-now.html So there should be a big bump coming up for the points that came in over that period. Watch and wait, I guess. :? EDIT: And the points came through! ...

Re: big brass box

Hey, just a quick update. My original A frame structure turned out to be a little unstable, so I built a full rectangular frame, like so: new-brass-2.jpg This actually helps in one way, I've been able to add more hard drives. It can now hold 14 hard drives, as well as the optical drive and and boot ...

BTW, the stats servers at stanford have been down for a couple days, so it looks like your data isn't going through. But from what I can tell in the forums, it's just the stats servers that are having the problem, the work servers still seem to be up. It's been weird for me this whole weekend, on fr...

Re: Intel Sandy Bridge Extreme: Core i7-3960X Processor

I haven't seen any articles, but frozencpu.com has a Noctua NH-D14 listed as being lga 2011 compatible, and they have socket adapters for a number of existing coolers, including notcua, but they're out of stock of the prolimatech adapters. Since the 2011 has the same socket holes as the lga 1366, it...

Re: Bigadv program announcement

Ah well, maybe I will get an x79 board. Current xeon boards are all 1366 based, and still pretty expensive. And all the new sandy bridge xeons are coming out early next year, apparently (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_bridge anyway), so no point trying to get a dual socket board now...

Hey, I have a question. So, jhimanka, what are you running to get that 300k ppd a day? Some big ass Xeon server or two? That is a pretty impressive pile of points! Dude, 6 months away from passing me! :D
