forking virus? A pun. fork() is how a unix process replicates itself. Also, a couple of letters could be changed to describe what we really think of viruses and virus writers. I've always wondered why big companies don't go after them with the same zeal that they do others: bootleggers, music downl...

Re: Help me with a virus problem please.
plus, i noticed the folder "AAWTMP" doesn't exist in my "Local Settings\Temp" folder It could be that "Show Hidden files and folders" is not enabled in Explorer:Tools:Folder Options:View For a quick check, from the Cmd Prompt, use "dir /a /s \crack*". You should probably quarantine this machine whi...

Re: Mainstream HD 2000 cards being shipped to reviewers
And there's no embargo, so if you have any questions, Ditto other comments - especially heat output. Approx. cost would be useful also. I'm very interested in how a fanless 2600 compares to the fanless 8600GT[S]. I have a 690G MB and will be adding an ATI GPU for a three monitor setup (NVidia 6150 ...

HD temp is 56C according to Speedfan. Ouch. Some would say this is just fine but IMO this is playing with fire... I get uncomfortable (rightly or wrongly) with an HD temp > 40c. What average temp does Speedfan report with the SMART "in-depth online analysis"? It's 36 for a WD320AAKS. I recently mov...

My question is whether I should add a fan to my U120X or not and if these temps. will affect the life span of my CPU. When the Nexus runs at full speed, I can easily hear it. There's no motor noise, but there is a whoosh that's audible. It's controlled by the BX2, and it only runs at full speed whe...

Thanks for your replies, very helpful. I would go for the E6600 between those two. I think I have decided to get the E6850 (3 GHz stock) when it is released ~$266 in July (ZipZoomFly is currently selling it as a preorder). You might want to check out this thread first. Depending on usage, the Q6600...

Hate to ask the obvious but... why did you sell it if it's perfect? something more perfect out there? So, has anybody had any experience with the AN-M2? or are we waiting for socket AM2+ to be rel...

Unclear as to whether the question is to replace the rear fan or add another somewhere. I've sampled both fans mentioned and at the same rpm with the Nexus being "quiet", the motor noise (ticks) can be heard from the Scythe 800. The Scythe 1600 seems to have a better (lack of) sound undervolted but ...

I've yet to hear any confirmation, which leads me to believe -- as others have suggested -- that the problem was stemming from a different component. That seems reasonable - hard to imagine that this wouldn't be more widely reported if it was widespread. Nice temp. In an NSK3300, I have a Gigabyte ...

I put a couple of Scythe 2100rpm (3610KL-04W-B29-F51) in the front of a NSK3300 which is sitting next to the monitor. Argh, the roaring... I almost returned them but used a FanMate to determine what speed was acceptable. Using MB monitoring (abit NF-M2), they faded into the background below 950rpm. ...

The effect of CnQ can't be underestimated. Although it's usually enabled, even during testing, I disabled it and found that the 51w usage at idle jumped to 64w: CPU 1.12v -> 1.34v. Still not big usage but 25% higher. I don't know if there is an equivalent option for the Pentium 4. Oh, multiply power...

I recently tested several of the components mentioned here and haven't lost my notes yet so I'll share. First, I believe the picture above is indeed the 8600 - it looks the same as the one I'm holding in my hands. In WinXP, it's marginly faster than the 7600GT fanless (discontinued dual-slot) Gigaby...

Hello I've just got finished building a new box using this motherboard and I'm having some problems. I would suspect RAM. You know the drill - try the RAM on another board/try other RAM on the NF-M2. I can't tell if you're running one or two sticks - if two, try each individually. I've used Corsair...

newegg automatically raises prices on popular items. they've been criticized for this in the past. The funny thing is when people complain about prices falling right after a purchase - something I've experienced also. Of course, RAM purchasers from last spring/summer are gloating now. The NF-M2 replacement finally arrived - loaded XP from a Plextor 716SA without a problem. It's kinda nice not having any IDE cables in the case. The NoiseMagic NMT-3 has been working out rather nicely on a 12cm side case fan. An automatic speed control device that controls RPMs between 28-42C, 5-12V, it relieves the need of thinking about adjusting the fan for heavy usage. It's been discussed in several places on SPCR. There's also a NMT-2 (...

Has anyone used a fan cable Y-splitter off a MB connector? It might be useful to have the MB SYSfan control two 80mm fans. I tried the HD cooler - Vantec ICEBERQ.
