Could someone with P5B Deluxe verify if rotating the mounting plate 90 degrees helps?

Backup everything while you can. And then stop using the drive for critical stuff.

So are the capacitors on P5W DH shorter than the ones on P5B Deluxe?? That is the only way to explain this. Or maybe it is just manufacturing tolerance: the capacitors might be installed higher or lower and you got lucky.

It definitely fits. I just installed the Scythe Ninja Plus rev B on my P5W DH Deluxe last night. You have only a couple millimeters of clearance from the capacitors but it works just fine. Couple of millimeters? That can't be right. See this picture: http://www.pcper.com/image.php?aid=297&img=board...

That is still less than 8% overclock. A 8'% core speed difference is less than 8% difference in FPS. And the FPS difference in above tests was greater than 8%: on average 7900GTO was 28% faster. So a 8% overclock won't help. 7900GTO is clearly faster - and remember that 7900GTO is also very overcloc...

7900GTO is clearly the faster one. See this comparison:

It is also quite quiet so go for it. It also has better Linux support if needed. Don't know about power consumption.

Scythe Ninja rev.B is not compatibe with most C2D motherboards having capacitors near the socket - ie. all C2D mobos. This includes P5B Deluxe for example. I guess P5B is also not compatible. Scythe Ninja is not the best heatsink unless you run it totally passive. Ultra 120 for example was better at...

I agree with others. You have to accept higher (but still 100% safe) temperatures. CPU: less than 60 degrees. GPU: less than 85 degrees. HD: less than 50 (or even 45) degrees. Chipset: who cares. (I pulled those from my hat...) Just forget the temperatures and aim for stability. The only thing is to...

Scythe Ninja Plus is not necessarily rev.B. If you use the backplate you are using rev.A which works fine with most C2D mobos. The new Ninja Plus rev.B uses a different mounting (no backplate) and Scythe messed up with the design. It doesn't fit properly most C2D boards. Please see here: http://www....

Very odd. You should try to find out the exact origin of the buzz by elimination. See if resolution affects it etc.

Have you overclocked your board? Try to alter the voltages and see if it helps.

Some Gigabyte mobos buzz when overclocked or overvolted - I'm not sure which.

Also consider Ultra-120 which seems to be a very good heatsink. Better than Scythe Ninja which was better than Scythe Infinity - according to SPCR.

russsss, 1. Can you mount Ultra-120 easily on your P5W DH so that it is facing the rear exhaust fan (not the PSU fan)? 2. Is there enough room so that the mounting stuff doesn't touch the capacitors on your mobo? 3. Is there some soft material on the 775 backplate? Is it sticky like on the old Ninja...

My opinions: 1. There are many reports of whining Gigabyte P965 motherboards. They emi a high pitch whine when overvolted. Don't know if this applies to other brands also. I'd buy also Asus (P5B Deluxe) as it overclocks like hell and probably doesn't whine. P5B-E is also a good choice and cheaper. 2...

The thing to consider is this:

Electrolytic capacitor has a certain design life. It doubles for each 10 degrees lower temperature. So you really don't want to have the heatpipes touch them at all!

2 platters, 16MB cache, SATA + silent?

I need a new HD for my Linux. So size is not an issue (160GB is more than enough). I want:

SATA interface
1-2 platters
16MB cache
TOTAL SILENCE!!!

What might be my options? Any news on Western Digital 160GB platter discs?

See this interesting comparison: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2855&p=1 It seems that Asus P5B Deluxe with Intel P965 chipset consumes 11W less power than Asus P5NSLI using nForce 570 SLI chipset. The SATA has a few advantages: 1. Smaller cables -> better airflow + easier to handle 2. Smaller connectors -> easier to handle 3. No master/slave/jumper crap anymore. 4. The retail value of a SATA drive will be better as new C2D boards have only 1 IDE connector. But there is no performance differen...

Yes, it would be nice to get the same information about:

Asus P5B-E, P5B Deluxe, P5B-E Plus (to be released)
Gigabyte DS3, DS4, DQ6 (these sometimes emit high pitch noise)
Abit AB9, AB9 Pro (these might emit too)

No reason to buy AMD now. And no reason to base your current purchase on guesses on future performance etc. C2D is the best processor now with a clear margin. Buy an E6300 and overclock it if needed. It will outperform AMD FX-62 if you overclock it.
