Is there a program that manually can spin down hard drives? I know that window's power managment can spin down hard disk drives after a certain period of inactivity. I was wondering if there was a program that let me do this manually.

i went through the exact same thing. Drove me absolutely crazy!!!! I have a 3700 bqe case. I ended up suspending one drive in the 5.25 drive cage, and putting the other one on sorbothane in the regular ralf style in the HDD cage. I used stretch magic btw. Once i did that, the humming went 100% away....

Really? My AMB's fan was LOUD! Very very loud. At 5v, things got much more acceptable. Still had to find out a way to decouple the fan from the case.

exactly, and furthermore, keep the optical on the channel that you do NOT read from when you write.

actually having them on different channels is much faster. each channel can only read or write at the same time, reading from one channel and writing to the other is possible though, and happens much much faster.
