I will not be undervolting or overclocking. Stock speed. I also figured since it was a 45nm CPU, that almost any HSF would be fine. No?
What's a good heatsink that is relatively small, and can take a quiet 92mm fan?

Thermalright XP-90 still viable?
I noticed the 'Egg doesn't care Thermalright stuff any more, but I have an XP-90 cooler in another PC and like it a lot. I was thinking of buying another for a new Quad core Q9450 build. I only have it on a P4 Northwood now, so I don't know how it will fare with a quad. They can still be found onlin...

How about the MSI P7N SLI Platinum? I would never recommend an NVidia chipset. I'm typing on one now. Can't wait to get rid of it. Robert What board do you have? The ASUS P5K Deluxe pulls in more power than other P35 boards. Dunno why. Might make your system hotter. (I'm also not sure if the regular P5K is affected, but ASUS boards have ran hotter in the past). http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/12747/16 And you definitely don't want a Gigabyte board for D...

I think the DFI Lanparty LT P35-T2R fits the bill nicely too. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16813136039 It has two gigabit ethernet ports, both on the PCI-E bus and a plethora of fan headers. Even if you don't overclock, it's component selection and layout is top notch compared...

That is really odd. From this chart, http://www.realtek.com.tw/images/products/High_Definition_Audio_Codec_Selection_Guide.jpg It shows that the 885 is in fact better than the 888s.. however, the 889 should be better than the 885 and feature more stuff. Interesting. I wish I could remember the revi...

Recommended 92mm fans?
The Nexus SPCR recommended 92mm fan doesn't seem to be around anymore. Or at least I can't find a place that sells it in the USA.
What are some of the better quiet 92mm fans out there? It's going on the Ninja mini.

I know some of the gigabytes have serious DPC latency problems with later bios revisions, which makes low latency audio next to impossible, so I'd go with the abit. While off-topic.... What does the bolt through kit do? How does that help temps? Also, on the LC17 if i put a 120mm fan on the intake vent to the right of the CPU, will that help cool the CPU and slow down the CPU cooler? i.e. will this be a cheaper option for me? I use my HTPC for watching tv (recorded) playing dvds ...

What will you be doing with your HTPC? There are a lot of non-PC alternatives cropping up with no fans or noise whatsoever. In some cases, they just need a PC/Server back end feeding them the DVD's, videos or TV streams. I'm partial to the whole SageTV + HD Extender setup, but Popcorn Hour and other...

I saw that review too, but I guess I'll need to wait for the Q9450's to come out. That X-bit labs comparison pits a fast dual-core E8500 @ 3.16Ghz vs a Q9300 @ 2.5Ghz. I'm guessing they are close in power consumption due to the clock difference. In my case it'll be a E8400 @ 3.0Ghz vs the Q9450 @ 2....

Idle power consumption - E8400 vs Q9450?
I'm going to build a new PC soon, probably with the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 motherboard. I would use the Quad core if I had it, but that variable is actually less important than silence (ergo heat) or power consumption. I'm not running Folding@Home or anything like that, but I do leave my PC on 24/7 an...

All Core2 CPUs have two internal temperature sensors: a thermal diode that is pinned out to the motherboard and measured by an external chip, and a DTS (digital thermal sensor) that is calculated inside the chip and read by software from a CPU register. The diode is provided for backward compatibil...

Quietest non-tower heatsink for Intel C2D?
Call it a personal preference, but I don't like the really tall towers. What's the next best thing? I'll be buying a C2D E6750 and probably will not overclock. My initial research came up with a Thermalright SI-120 paired with a Scythe 120mm (800rpm) fan. Fan is 10.70dBA. Is that enough to cool this...

HTPC CPU cooler recommendation: Antec NSK2480 desktop case
I don't have any of the components yet, so I can't tell you my clearance on the Antec NSK2480. It's a popular case, so I'm sure somebody knows. I will put a mATX motherboard in there with an Intel C2D CPU. It will not be overclocked. Quiet (1) and Cool (2) are the most important. It don't know what ...

ATI 2600 AGP options
I've been waiting for an 2600 AGP alternative to the VisionTek and it appears that Diamond has entered the game. I know other manufacturers will be forthcoming (Sapphire, PowerColor, etc.) but I'm tired of waiting. This is for an old P4 2.8Ghz HTPC. I imagine the performance will be the same, but ca...
