Thank you for the help m8s. The Barracuda LP, single 500GB platter@5900rpm seems interesting. A space of 500GB is enough for me, unless you tell me that for some technical reason it is preferable the 1TB model. Anything faster/quieter than my WD6400AACS-00G8B1?
Hi all my friends! :) I need a new external drive for my enclosure, my "old" Samsung died past week. I want to use my actual WD hdd in rig with the enclosure, but i need a new drive as a os/data/apps drive, of course. Greenest HDD's speeds are fine for my need, but i'm wondering if exist a disk quie...

infrasonic: "I was wondering about noise comparisons between a 2.5" laptop drive (i.e. WD10TEVT) and a 3.5" standard size drive (i.e. WD10EVDS). Both are 1TB drives, but (naturally) the laptop drive costs more than a 3.5" 2TB drive (WD20EVDS) also." WD10EVDS is Western Digital's Audio-Visual GreenP...

A quoting from Yersys Technology Blog: "Now here's something you don't see everyday. I found a Japanese site that tested a brand new single platter WD5000AADS drive, then opened the drive up completely, taking out the platter and determining the RPM, which was found to be 4995RPM. Interesting." So, ...

A thing is unclear for me, i'll try to explain, sorry for my not-so tecnical english. I have a "normal" hard drive with win7 home installed. If i backup this drive with the integrated MS backup tools in an external disk, and then rebuild the backup in the new AFD, do i need the align method, or the ...

No, i'm talking about the Pipeline hd.2, similar to the model reviewed by SPCR in this article, except the buffer size:

I founded a pipeline 500GB HD2 at a good price. But it is 8MB buffer model, and it's the only difference from the one reviewed. I will use it as a system drive in my rig, Caviar GP will become a backup drive mounted under the Seagate. Should i care about buffer? Should i care about performance?

(NEW???) SEAGATE BARRACUDA LP 5900.1 500GB
It seems a new 500GB/platter drive based on LP type, i'm not sure if it is a new model. I've been on the lookout for a card like this to replace my passive 7600GS, but under stress this baby still draws around 85W, while my oldie only asks around 35-40W under full load. But performance wise it's no match, that's a fact  According to xbit lab, power consumption is 11W idle, 44W l...
