These people should be pissed at scanner companies, and not MSFT. He can find it "inexcusable" all day long, but it isn't going to make a closed-source, proprietary driver that runs on Vista pop out of thin air. I can now confirm that my scanner does not work Vista. I'm not personally mad at anyone...

incredible driver/device support... I read that many older scanner drivers won't work and you may have to install a VMware Server and put a Windows XP virtual machine on it if there is no Vista driver. Is this true? I doubt it. Most of the things people say about Vista at this point in time aren't ...

looking for a very cheap quiet setup
I need to put together a new computer for family, for basic stuff like the web and email. It just has to be quiet. The cheapest pre-built system I can find locally is based on a Celeron D 331. How loud is its stock fan and would it be possible to simply lower the fan speed to say 5V without overheat...

LGA775 boards with many harddrive connectors
I'm looking for a board to use with Core 2 and numerous hard drives, say at least 5. Can anyone name some boards with numerous SATA and some ATA connectors?
I know of:
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe: 8 SATA, 2 ATA
Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6: 8 SATA, 1 ATA

Stock Geforce7-series loudness
How loud is the fan on a typical stock GF7 card such as the 7900GT, etc. say compared to a panaflo or a quiet PSU like Enermax Noisetaker?

Found a cd$14 price for the G450 in Canada, cd$28 after shipping and tax, but the only dealer that sells it is disreputable. Anyway, Asus V9400-X/TD at slightly over cd$30 is cheaper than the V9400. But it seems to have incompatibility problems. Now looking at a Powercolor Radeon 7000 at cd$44. Does...

I'm about to add a 7200.8 SATA drive to one computer with 3 7200.7 ATA drives. The computer has Athlon XP1800+, GF4 Ti, 512mb DDR, a DVD burner and runs on a Nexus 300watt PSU. Think this is safe (eg during spin up)?

How much do SATA harddrives use on the 12V, say a Seagate 7200.7? I already have three 7200.7 ATAs running on a Nexus 300w so I have to start being careful.

They spin up at the same time. I must admit I was a bit nervous the first time I turned the system on... But it has always remained trouble-free. If the 12 drives consume 1.5A each on average on the 12V at spin up, for a few seconds they would hit 18A on the 12V. I don't know what'd happen if I ran...

Please be aware that it calculates a worst case scenario where all components are stressed to the max at the same time. This rarely if ever happens in real world, unless you do it purposefully. Well, if one uses a RAID array with lots of drives, all of them would be constantly in use at the same ti...
