Superficially, the Lian Li PC-800 looks like a very nice case. But it has 3 issues: 1. The perforated front and rear faces "can" let a lot of noise out of the case, but with the right components it can be a plus. Unfortunately, you do not have the right components. 2. It is aluminum. While nice and ...

Re: ...

The 6800Ultra uses about 20w more than the 6800GT, so to get two of them it will add about 40w more to your load which works out to be 354w; let's just say 360w. That is still below the max power of the Tagan 430 that you want. Now the question does the Tagan 430 have enough amps on the 12v line to...

Wrong, especially considering that TDP is 89w.

The X2 3800+ has been measured at 65.1w under full load.

CORRECTION - I was looking at the A64 3800+ originally (59.6w). The A64 X2 3800+ comes in at 65.1w.

Processors are not religion. There is no need to devote yourself to AMD or Intel. There is no need to preach to others to do the same. They are just processors... It's all about efficiency and performance, and it is best to choose which processor most suits your own needs. For now I would say AMD h...

AFAIK, any Socket 939 motherboard is capable of supporting A64 X2 as long as the BIOS is up to date. Since A64 X2 has been out for around 9 months there are no shortages of MBs that will support X2 right out of the box. Some may need to be updated. Go for namebrands like Abit, Asus, DFI, Gigabyte, a...

I thought I would take one more step up on my new build, but when I look for mb's on Newegg there are only 2! Could this really be true? Plenty of Athlon x2 boards, but only 2 Athlon 64 x2 boards. That is such a bad article. The only components I would select from the setup is the Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS. I would take the 7900GTX, but that's an overkill for my gaming needs.

Loyd Case is halfway right in selecting the Seasonic S12 series, but 600w is way overkill for the proposed system.

seems that for the 10 or so extra dollars for the seasonic over the fortron, you get a retail box, more accessories (screws etc) better warranty, probably more quiet, and a little more overhead (not entirely important) I guess I'm nickle and diming here. The seasonic is OOS right now for a couple o...

Based on the chart, if you really do feel that the lower noise justifies the extra cost of the CPU, then go for it. But you should realise that different testing environments will result in slightly different results. Also consider the fact that you should allow for +/- 3% margin of error for all me...

You need not look any further. Just go ahead and pull the trigger for the S12s. Seasonic S12 PSUs are excellent for efficiency, low noise, and quality. Seasonic is the typical default answer you will get. If you are worried about future upgradability of your PC, then consider the fact that the Seaso...

Yeah, you gotta love Intel's marketing. And the co-processor doesn't work if you take out the SX chip which is effectively de-activated.

Re: Is microATX suitable for a multimedia PC?

Take a look on MSI K8NGM2-FID , it's a great stable µATX board. It seems to have become a bit rare lately in the US. Newegg.com doesn't even list it as an out of stock item. ZipZoomFly lists that MB as out of stock, but with a hefty $110 price tag. I think it is one of the better GeForce 6150 board...

Based on your current wishlist (as of this post) the case you are thinking about doesn't specify if it uses a m-ATX PSU, or a standard ATX PSU. The Hauppauge you selected is the MCE version, that means you need Windows Media Center in order for the card to work. So Windows XP Home/Pro will not work....

Using a m-ATX doesn't have any affect on noise. Actually that's not true because all boards based on the GeForce 6100/6150 are passively cooled. That's a good thing. The only real shortcoming with any m-ATX MB is the fact that there are only two PCI slots. Also be aware that if you decide to add in ...
