Difficulty with a core duo notebook and mobility X1600

I've got a W3J, and I currently have two issues: 1) I can't seem to start a second instance of F@H. I've looked at the FAQs on the F@H website, but I can't get a second command line interface of F@H to work. 2) I want to fold with the GPU client if possible, but the current drivers are not supported...

I'm in

Sorry for not being Johnny on the Spot with F@H. Got all my ideas for my 'puters from you folks (God bless Mike, Neil, et alia from 2002 on), so I think it's high time I put those free cycles to work. Over the next few months, I'll install it as often as I can on as many boxen as I can. It's ...

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Itchin' for a new GPU. 9600Pro still on my Athlon 3200 @ 2.5 GHz. I dunno if I really need it right now (gotta pass my board exams in 7 weeks) but I really want it. I think the best advice is to wait for a little bit unless you need the increased horsepower, 'cause there ...

I have the same issue with the 7200.9 series. Two 120GB SATA drives purchased in July 2003, one is virbratory and the other isn't. Both have been going strong, though. I placed the noisiest one on a foam pad and zip-tied it to the pad, markedly reduced vibration. Haven't had a problem with data or d...

One option would be to hedge your bets and get something like this:

http://www.asrockamerica.com/Products/939DSATA2.htm

PCI-E and AGP, s939 and an expansion port.

Seems like a reasonable option if you need something now, and want to have some future-proofing.

I have used the Logitech MX Duo for over 2 years now, and still going strong. Relatively quiet, haven't had to change the batteries in the keyboard yet. Only downside is that the knobs on the base of the mouse that come into contact with the recharging base need to be wiped with alcohol a couple of ...

Hey, thanks for the info. If the setup is 24 hours Prime95 stable at 7v with the stock HSF, I'll increase the HTT a little more, maybe to 1800GHz total or so. It's so fast now compared to the old system, it would be hard to justify the instability risk (especially since it's my wife's computer). Tha...

That was the forum I read early this morning (the baby was cranky).

Not to sound like a newb, but what do you mean by HTT? I'm more used to the Phoenix BIOS rather than the AMI that this board has, and I don't recall seeing a setting for that.

Thanks,

If that is the case, would a modded BIOS be of any use? There was some talk in other forums of working on a modded BIOS for this purpose.

Sempron 64 s754 -- any way to undervolt?

After enduring a Celeron with a 60mm fan and a 10 gb Quantum Fireball in our bedroom for 5 years, I managed to convince my wife to let me upgrade her computer. So, after some research, I decided on a 2500+ Sempron 64 and a NF4 6100 based board, the ASRock K8NF4G-SATAII. I even read the manual for th...

It really depends on the BIOS settings, and whether or not the BIOS will allow you to manually adjust the voltage. Some of the newer 754 boards are marked as undervoltable in their manuals, such as the ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2. It's not listed in the undervoltable mobo section, but the manual (downloadab...

Pentium M socket adaptor for P4 at CeBit

Over at Tom's Hardware there is mention in their CeBit coverage of a socket 470 adaptor from ASUS for the 478-pin FSB800 P4 motherboards. That would be really nice if it comes to fruition, as it might lower the cost of those more expensive P-M desktop mobos (and you could use DDR 400 or higher for m...

Thanks for the replies and suggestions, guys. To answer the questions above, the specific issue with the board is that there were two revisions of the Northbridge cooler from Abit for the IS7 - the original version which featured a very wimpy-sized heatsink with a screeching fan, and a newer version...

I didn't get a set of instructions, per se. I got a piece of paper that directed me to the website. Not so fun, running upstairs to the wife's computer to find out how to install it. Used the 900U instructions on their website.

I just installed the 800U. I'd have to agree that the instructions for it STINK. Kept running upstairs to the wife's computer to try and figure out what was going on. The HS itself is great, though. Works about as well as the 900, and a bit less weight (? better cooling:weight ratio?). I mounted it ...

Zalman HP and Abit IS7

Has anybody out there tried a Zalman HP (80a or 80c) with the Abit IS7? The fan on my 9600 pro is now the loudest thing in my system and it's beginning to drive me nuts. I have the "new" northbridge HSF which is much quieter than the old one, but it is also a lot taller and sits really close to the ...
