Actually some mates of mine did a test between the 1048 and 1250 in a single block loop (with triple radiator). That was enough to improve the cpu temperatures by ~3°C on all blocks (cpu ~90Watts). What you're experiencing here is a heat transfer effect due to the block design. What is happening is...

From the sound of it, unless you haven't already softmounted your fans - which may cut sound further - all you're going to be able to do is redirect the sound away from your ears. The aluminium baffle you're constructing may be the only way to go - particularly if you can line it with dampening mate...

At 3 litres per minute, a loop that dumps 200W of heat (i.e. massively overclocked unless you're using Peltiers) will raise the water temperature by about 1 deg C over the course of the loop. This, to me, is negligible. In terms of what will affect your cooling, you're going to have do be down to ar...

pdf27 That's my point exactly. Throwing a 100W CPU into your system is "OK", because you've got a fat FHS sitting on it. Can you show me how I attach a Thermalright SP-94 to an AGP card, exactly? :D Well, for a start get away from the mindset that the weight of the cooler has to be carried by the c...

Full size CPU heatsink + ducted flow throwing the air out of the back of the case? For a 30 C delta-T (i.e. about 50 C exit temp - max you can probably run at stably) you need a fan capable of pushing about 50 CFM when the card is at full power. That means at least a 92mm fan if you're keeping it qu...

My TFT (Acer AL718) does make a slight noise, but it's very faint (inaudible if there is more than a tiny amount of background noise) and very high pitched (20 kHz?) so not everyone will be able to hear it. I still haven't figured out what causes it though, and the monitor is fantastic compared to m...

Water viscosity is 1.14 x 10-3 kg/m s Specific heat is about 4 kJ/kg K depending on pressure and temperature There's quite a big discussion about this at procooling - from the bits I understood the conductivity of the liquid might be quite important in some circumstances, otherwise it will really st...

The easiest way to run fans at 5v is powering them off the molex power plugs rather than the motherboard fan headers. The molex power cables have a 12v, 5v and two 0v lines. Switch the wire from the 12v to the 5v line and they'll run at 5v. If you connect the fan between the 12v and 5v lines, it wil...

Welcome to SPCR! Much as I hate to say it, this is probably the wrong place to ask, much as I hate to say it. Somewhere like ProCooling would be better, as this sort of thing gets discussed there frequently. Another thing to look up would be the work of Cathar in Australia. He came up with the White...

On a serious note, I'm planning to prototype the internal layout of my next case in cardboard so I can play around with the internal layout (I'm planning to watercool, so space may be tight). This is the sort of thing that would be really handy for that sort of thing - you can easily and cheaply try...

Googling suggested that the stagnation pressure difference from a standard 120mm fan is about 60Pa. That from a chimney-type system is of the order 0.something Pa (work it out for yourself - h*rho*g for the surrounding air, minus h*rho*g for the air in the tower). This is not a problem for really un...

Try doing your sums. I reckon that assuming no air resistance and a 20 deg C temperature difference between inside and outside the chimney you'd need a chimney 200m high to get about the same pressure difference as a 120mm fan. Unfortunately increasing the temperature difference doesn't make that bi...

Looking inside, the transformer is mounted next to (touching) a thin steel plate, and vibrates in operation. I can't figure out exactly what the steel plate is for, as it basically isolates the transformer air circulation from the Amp circuitry. As the unit barely gets warm in operation, I suspect t...

Since this isn't even computer related SPCR is probably not a good place for this discussion, but I will give some input anyway. True, but it's still probably the best place out there to find out. For instance there might be people out there who've had the same problem with PSUs. I have a suspicion...

RMAing it probably isn't on - it's a few years old now, and the hum is pretty faint. I'm perfectly willing to have a bash at fixing it myself, once I know what the problem is and how to deal with it. Best guess is that it might be transformer related (it's that kind of a noise) but as right now I wo...
