Re: seasonic 400w fanless or x-series 650 in an p183?
I have been advised against a fanless psu because they can get quite hot and so the case fans have to work harder to keep everything cool.... however i think this might not be a problem in the p183. What do you guys think?Cheers! A fanless PSU like X400 has no fan, but it does need to have some air...

Re: WD Black 2tb
I think Vicotnik already posted a good response, seems everything should fit fine. But just in case, there is also the option of 1.8 drives, which are very small ssds, like Intel X18m or the upcoming Intel 320 1.8 version. And my Windows 7 64bit install on is way lower than 40GB, around 22gb with sc...

You can change the minimum %, my Intel DLH61 comes with 30% i think (20% for the system fan), you can increase this and it will start a higher range, put 50% or 70% and see if the rev increases.GOODYES wrote:I enter on the BIOS/Config/CPUFan/ but then i cannot figure how to up the speed of CPU fan

Re: fastest passive (nvidia) card available?
Going passive imo is not worth it, specially if you plan to play. If you already have a fan running, i would just try to go with a good aftermarket cooling setup. Some have had good results lowering the rpm with MSI afterburner or flashing the vbios to even lower it more. Idk whats your budget, but ...

Check Hitachi 5K500B, its on the SPCR recommend list, here is their review, More 500GB notebook drives: Seagate 7200.4 & Hitachi 5K500.B. If you can still get an SSD for OS/APPs.

Go for the AX850, but i woudlnt OC with SLI 580 with 850W, probably stock you might be fine, but OCing might push it.
Seasonic was going to release 1000W psu, but idk when they will be launching, might be wroth checking out for your setup.

I doubt its quiet, but if your mobo has pwm controls or you can try to undervolt it, Delta 80 x 15mm "11 Blade" High-Speed PWM Fan - 48.80 CFM (EFC0812DB-PWM) . Or as Ces posted alredy, you could try the one that comes in the kouzuti, Slip Stream 8cm fan, rated at 800 (±30%) to 3300rpm (±10%). Our f...

Re: Advice for a compact, quiet, cheap, low-power home serve
For the PSU really depends into what components you will have, im runing a picoPSU 150XT with 150W power brick with my 2100T setup (but only 1 2.5 drives). On average the 3.5 drives will consume 3-8W (depends on the drive), but there are certain power on requierements, im not sure how many drives ca...

Re: Advice for a compact, quiet, cheap, low-power home serve
I think Hfat cover it pretty well, just going to add some comments. As Hfat commented, the SuperMicro are server oriented boards, with high quality and good support, they probably wont be as efficient as Intel boards, but they probably will be more reliable. One plus that the board has as i said bef...

Re: Advice for a compact, quiet, cheap, low-power home serve
Personally for 2tb setup, i would go with something like Synology DiskStation 2-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS211 (White) , i own but dont use it much, a DS111, it idles at 16W to 18W, and even though it has a small fan, i dont hear it 3 feet away. Doens't mean an actual delay but it would have been a nice kindof surprise to see it at Computex. August is still the likely market availability mark. Well some sites are putting september, maybe getting too close to Sandy Bridge E release, many might wait to see what intel offers if its too close....

Re: cooling a i3-2100 (using the CPU TDP for HSF selection?)
I agree with Hfat, everything is relative to each person. And will also depend on other components, i see you going with Sapphire 6850 this might end up as the loudest component, so i would first test the hole complete setup, maybe lowering the fan on heatsink wont do much if the GPU is doing all th...

Re: I do not want to hear this system ...
With a huge heatsink like the HR-02, I bet you could run a dual-core Sandy Bridge fanless (no HSF, no case fan, no nothing). But you'd probably need a case with a large and efficient vent on the top (or a large case) to keep temperatures at reasonable levels. Idk if you could run it completly fanle...

Re: cooling a i3-2100 (using the CPU TDP for HSF selection?)
All sandy bridge CPU are very effcient, and their power consumption will be similar at idle, temps should be low also even with stock cooler. If you are in a budget, i would try the stock cooler first, the fan on it is PWN 4pin, so depending on your mobo you might be able to control it via bios. I p...

Re: Scythe Kazemaru 2 Wide Blade Bearing 140MM fans. 500 vs
IMO its always better to have full control of your fans, what ever is audible for one person might not be for other, what im trying to say is with the fan controller you always can tweak it to your personal liking or cooling needs. The only downside is if the fans don't like undervolting. If you are...

High-end Asus motherboards like you are considering have Q-Fan control in the bios to control fan speed. But make sure the CPU fan is a 4-pin PWM. Some Asus boards (like mine) have an additional PWM fan header, and a couple fo 4 pin headers. So make sure you get the right fans for the fan headers o...
