Re: Lone Industries Mini-ITX prototype

Awesome work jamese. Let me know if I can visit and buy you a soda when I'm back in town. I might even be in the market to buy 1 or 2 when I'm there. How about making a mount for the brick that attaches to the underside/back of your desk? I wonder if there's a way to make a mount to attach it to the...

Re: Tom's Hardware silent gaming PC

It appears they decided on an AMD APU originally because it makes more sense for the original build, which was integrated graphics only. It's unfortunate they didn't choose to rebuild the system from the CPU-up with an i3 when they added the video card. certainly it seems prudent to add a temperatur...

Re: Tom's Hardware silent gaming PC

Remember Gigabyte silent cell cards a couple of years ago? They worked a while and the died from pushing the thermals too far and the cards got pulled out of the market. Back then we knew before Gigabyte that those cards would suffer without any case fan.... and guess what? They suffered and eventu...

Re: Tom's Hardware silent gaming PC

FWith the addition of a passive HD 7750 you will need airflow through the case. Unless the article is lying, their system ran acceptably with no fans. Broadening this out: Will these components meet your needs at the required resolution/picture quality settings/games? Probably anyone who needs some...

How practical would it to be to juice that system up a bit? e.g., an e8400 cpu, and an ati 4670 (or similar) graphics?

9600gt is pretty cool, less than 70w under load.
I have a pretty tight case and my passive-cooled 9600gt is 55c at idle and 85c at load.

They do not have the same size fan. Just got one today and a 120mm does not fit. The 8700 is just that little bit smaller than the 7700. You can see it when they're next to each other. Unless anyone knows where to get a 110 fan from it's either use a 92 or increase the height by 25mm. Is there any ...

Making the BK623 quiet

So how do we approach making this a quiet case? My thoughts: PSU: 1) The PS fan is 80mm and can be replaced with a nexus. Unfortunately the internal unit is ~10mm, which means the nexus must be either mounted externally, or the case dremeled for the fan to be half in/half out. CPU: This case is desi...

l613 Pictures

The l613 is a conventional case. Everything appears to fit ok to start. I anticipate easier cable management because the case connectors will run directly along the bottom of the case, and the HD/CDRom will be directly across from the power supply. BK623 with hardware installed

The BK623 was not an issue-free installation as we'll see. It has a multi-layer design over the CPU to manage the cooling: Mobo -> Baffle -> CDRom Cage. The mobo: http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/7862/623opendr4.th.jpg It looks like an OK fit, except the 4-pin power connecter to the mobo. The wire...

According to SPCR, the vf900 choked on a X1950XTX. The vf700 is the older, weaker cousin to the vf900 so i'd expect it to do worse. I have no idea how hot the HD2600 pro is, but if it's anywhere close to the X1950XTX ... fuhgeddaboudit. Presumably you're asking because you haven't bought the cooler ...

I looked at both cases in person today. The L613 has about 7/16" clearance between the top of the mounting bracked at the side of the case. BK623 has about 9/16". Considering most graphics card PCBs already extend past the bracked by 4/16", i can't see how an over-the-top heat pipe solution could fi...

So for the topic at hand: from a noise-reduction point of view, the l613 is probably the better choice, since you can *possibly* put a heatpiped VGA in it? (whereas the bk623 has a panel blocking the rear of the vga card) I would want to avoid a passive-cooled VGA which does not use a heatpiped sink...
